Mowercam - A RESULT
« on: April 26, 2008, 05:37:02 PM »
Had planned greater things for Chop's wedding pics but time caught up with me. About half an hour to go and I was nowhere near where I planned to be. I thought I may as well cut the grass and record it for posterity (and Chops). Results still to be seen but here's the setup...

This shows my 21mm lens fitted but I also did some with a pinhole fitted. I just hope I get something worth showing out of it.

Andrea: Contender for joke of the year. This had me crying.

Peter: Wow! Can't wait to see the results...I think. I honestly cannot imagine what they're going to come out looking like  :D

I managed to record my noontime activities and they too were garden-based. Will post them later tonight. Also, willpost info about where everyone should send their completed images for the collaboration gallery that I'll be assembling once all the entries are in.

LOL

Well I started with them quite high but then the sun went in so I had to lower them a bit.

it's only cool if the camera actually mows the grass.

I am imagining the poor people fleeing as you suggest a closeup.  Like a scene out of Edward Scissorhands... you have trouble making friends as you dismember all of your subjects.
My chopstick is really a love poem.

What a laugh...

I like mine set high since it makes it harder for junebugs to lay their eggs (they make those white worms that eat up your nice lawn from underneath)

Peter: ever thought of putting the camera at blade height so that you get a close-up view of millions of blades of grass being cut (and get a green Minolta in the process :) )...

Sounds like the sort of thing I might sacrifice a digital camera for but my Minolta CLE - aaabsoluuutely not.

Well, the ones taken with a normal lens didn't amount to much but I like the pinhole ones. I still have some to scan but here's a couple of samples.

Don't know what the flare in the top right is but it's in all the pinhole shots.

How about putting one on a shopping trolley (shoptrolcam).

These are great! How did your pinhole setup work? How long was the exposure? I'm surprised the shots weren't shook to bits with the vibrations as you pushed. Could definately see a theme here - buggy (stroller) cam, skateboard cam, bicycle cam, etc etc :)

Superb results. Obviously the mower blade height was correct :-)

The pinhole was a 0.2mm hole mounted in the bottom of a plastic film can which was mounted in a body cap (see the pictures). By recessing the hole into the camera body a few mm I was able to get a focal length of about 20mm. This, in theory, gives an aperture of f/100 but I've found in the past, calculating the exposure using f/100 usually under exposes by a few stops so I always give a bit more. The shutter speed I used was mainly 1 second though I did take a few at 1/2 second.
