Gunk/Goop is good

Was out in the garden on Saturday for the Chopper wedding shoot collaboration and ended up resorting to Polaroid. Got some nice positives, but also found time to play around in the gunk. Pretty cool. Expired 125i film. Scanned when still wet and then the contrast 'upped' in Photoshop (a lot). 360 Land camera.





Managed to get the scanner cleaned up OK afterwards too  :D

brilliant! I don't understand what you've done, but superb pair of images. The first is mysterious, the second exuberant.

I never met a gunk I didn't like. These look fun...but a disaster on the scanner I know. I thought this was the 669 film. I have no 669 left. That is not right.

D steered me towards 125i last year. Job lots were going for cheap on evilBay so I bought about 10 packs. 3 or 4 left. Suspect the goop/gunk factor is similar to 669.

Hmm, very good. I think my photo lab still may have some on teh shelf. I have one single pack of SX-70 left and I am going to sell it on ebay for $345.00. And that is my final answer...

i've been really patient with my polaroid purchases. not like i'm going to use everything i have in the next two weeks, so what's the rush. couple weeks ago, i got 20 packs of 600 on ebay for a bit less than 8 bucks a pack (and he threw in an extra pack). people are just so spastic they rush and overbid. uv-id is always cheaper, too, than 699, even though it's about the same.

as for color goop, i'm usually not at home when i shoot, so it dries and fades before i can scan it. wonder if i can 'bring it back' somehow. hmm....

These dried for about an hour on a warm day before I scanned them. Trade off between image fading/dulling and the physical restrictions of scanning an image that is wet and sticky. Placed 'em face down on the flatbed surface so didn't want the image itself to still be wet/sticky when I did the scanning.

I made sure I placed them in the far corners of the scanner - i.e. nowhere near the area of the scanning surface that I use for neg/film work. Seems like no damage done. Will definitely do some more in the future.

COuld you place them on acetate ,then it would protect the glass. I've read of photograms being made in this way...just a thought

Good point, Karl. Assuming the dreaded Newton rings don't appear then that would be worth trying.

BTW, for anyone not familiar with the peel-apart process here are some very poor digital snaps of the photos just after developing was complete.

Hi all,

Is Gooping with a [whispers] digital camera OK instead of using a scanner?

That way the image can still be wet when the goop picture is made.

Seems to work for me with the Fuji 100 film.

Am I way out of my depth here?  ;D

Shouldn't be a problem. I know a guy who actually chucked his scanner and uses a digicam on a hand made (and shoddy looking I should add) copy stand.
