Thanks Janet. This is a great precis, and some I should look at myself. Appreciate the effort. Skorj.

Janet, your perennial enthusiasm for these events is inspiring and every year I genuinely appreciate you sending this info around to the crew, but as you know I can never seem to get my act together in time to submit anything. It's usually the printing thing that trips me up. I would have submitted something to the RHS competition (mainly because the stuff that wins most years is pretty pants), but was tripped up there by the fact that they need you to include the Latin name of the flora that you photograph...I always go along to Wisley and snap away for a couple of hours, come back with some stuff that I like a lot....but have no idea what it is. The Latin names rule kind of annoyed me to be honest. Surely that's their job; they're the RHS after all. I'm just a stupid IT geek with an old school camera collection and an itchy finger.

Ed, I know what you mean about the RHS thing with names, I don't think I included the Latin names in my entries last year and obviously that's why I didn't win  :D
I've taken a couple of shots recently specifically with some of these competitions in mind. Like doing collaborations, I find that competitions are a really good way to focus your mind, even if you don't end up entering them.
