fuji instax
« on: March 02, 2008, 03:13:43 PM »
what's the difference between the various fuji instax cameras? is one preferable over the others(ie better lens or more accurate focusing?)? i was at a flea market today and saw one that was blue and black(if i remember correctly), and a bit larger than the one's i've seen on display at the stores here. it was in excellent condition, but at 60 bucks* i wasn't sure i really needed it.  anyone have the lowdown on these cameras?

*note:  second hand cameras here are much more expensive in general than they would be in the states, etc.

ps. it's looking more and more likely that my new polaroid 450 is dead. not too happy that the seller listed it as in working order when it clearly had some issues.

i've been looking at those, too. the biggest difference seems to be that the cheaper cameras are goofy looking, while the more expensive versions look nicer and more compact. been checking out the mio, also, as that take instax.

i've been doing some more research and it looks like the more goofy/colourful ones are the mini instax. i was surprised to see that b&h and freestyle didn't carry any of the film and then i read somewhere that fuji doesn't sell the instax film or cameras in the states. which seems odd. i'm still undecided if i need it.

ps. i think my polaroid 450 may not be dead after all. :)

yeah instax film is an ebay purchase. i saw on the uk polaroid site 'panoramic instax' but i don't know if it fits in the regular cameras and i can't find any examples.

as far as i knwo there are 2 types, the normal instax and the mini,   i have a normal one and whilst its ok, its no polaroid,  for whatever reason they dont have the same charm.     the film is half the proce of polaroid film (if not cheaper)  and it had the added benefit of actually exsisting for a while longer......

i use mine for pissed up parties and time i dont want to risk my 680.

The so-called "panoramic Instax" is the full-size (wide-screen) Instax film.  It fits in the Instax 100, 200, and 500AF cameras.  The Instax Mini film produces images that are about 46X65mm.  There is a bunch of different (and colorful) Instax Mini (Cheki) cameras.  Instax Mini film also fits in the short-lived Polaroid Mio.

I just bought an Instax Mini 55 from Japan.  It's a really fun little camera to use and the film quality is quite remarkable:

I actually like my Instax quite a lot. Ignore Damion's 'charm' comment - I think that any absence of charm in his Instax snaps is largely due to the shooter himself and not the poor camera that he's using :D :D

To be serious for a second; I think the Instax is great out of doors, esp in sunlight (as per Andrea's lovely doggy pic), but less so indoors with flash. I used mine down in Cornwall a lot a couple of summers ago and got really good results with it.
