a few new pics
« on: February 15, 2008, 05:36:01 PM »
Here are some pics from a project I've been working on around the village where I live.  Some more successful than others  - these are from the local castle grounds ...

All work Leon. The last maybe doesn't sit so well with the others probably due to the very deep shadow/dark area you have chosen to frame the image - maybe a too big a frame - only you know the answer to that my friend! As always just an opinion!

The first and the last I would hang.  The mist shows well.

The first and last ones work best for me too. All of them are lovely though.

Leon:  Are these all taken with your 6?  I have been looking for one but am having a hard time finding the right one to pull the trigger on.   Wonderful  images!

The first two for me Leon.  The fourth is something of a just miss for me.  I would like to see some differnt frames from this particular scene.  You are really harnessing a romantic vision.  Very lovely style.  Reminds me of some other guy.  But that almost shouldn't be said because these are as good.
My chopstick is really a love poem.

First one is my pick of the litter.

They seem a little different for your style to me?
It's almost as if you've stepped outside yourself and made them....sleepwalking comes to mind for some reason.

Not blundering stumbling in the dark sleepwalking, just another level of being.

thanks  - Becky, up until now, I've always used standard or wide lenses which bring a certain "feel", I wonder if these seem different to you because I'm using a longer lens making me see differently to how I would usually?  I like the idea of "another level of being" ... maybe it's a step towards photo nirvana .... ;)

Leon,
Great photos. I would hang No.1 on my wall.  For the curious viewers out there, can you tell us something about your subject ?

Thanks Declan - the pictures were taken in Chilham Castle grounds and are part of a series I'm trying to find the time to do called "Chilham at Dawn".  Although now closed to the public, it used to be quite a tourist attraction with regular open air Shakespeare productions, jousting tournaments, falconry etc etc. My aunt used to live in the village and I'd come to stay with her when I was in my teens so I have lots of memories of visiting the castle.  In an odd flash of coincidence, my wife grew up a short way from where my aunt lived, yet we never met when we were young despite it bing a small village. We moved back to the village a few years ago.  Being a photogrpaher herself, the current owners of the Castle have very kindly given me permission to come into the grounds when I like to undertake the project  I'm not surewhere I'm going with it yet, but I'd like to work towards a printed series and show it at some point ... we'll see how it goes.

info on the castle is here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilham_Castle

This is going to grow into a beautiful series - I can't wait to see how it evolves. For me, the first and second photographs are the winners.

Hi Leon,
great photos, its the first and fourth for me too I think, I really like the heavy ivy framing to the delicate etherial view.
I know Chilham well, I used to often go to jousting shows there when I was younger before it shut to the public, such a shame as it was a beautifull place to visit, you are lucky to get an invite to go back there!
I look forward to seeing more pics from the grounds  :)

Very nice shots.  I'm impressed with how you've used to fog in these pictures.
