Weekend 31st May - 2nd June 2024
« on: May 31, 2024, 08:49:08 AM »
Had a walk along the quayside in the small town where I live early on Sunday morning, shooting up the last roll of Seagull 400. This weekend I'm headed north for a two month vacation, so I will not be posting any shots before August.  8)

Zenit-B / Yashinon 2.0/5cm / Seagull 400 @200 ISO in HC-110

yay, the weekend and a great start by Kai San!
Love the boats and wish I lived nearer the water as it's so soothing and just fun to be a round.
Mine is a quick snap with a Reto Wide and slim with some 100 speed Arista from a road trip intersection last weekend.
I'm a sucker for signage.

Thanks Becky! It looks like the one way sign in your shot points into a dead end!  ;)

Happy Weekend!
Love that last shot of the boat, Kai! It looks very classic somehow.
Becky, these are a lot of intimidating signs.
I caught some cyclists at a local castle. Agfa Super Isolette and Delta 100 developed in Adox XT-3.

Repaired a belOMO Etyud a couple weeks ago. First test roll.

Also tried Rollei RPX 100 for the first time. I need to go back and print these with a little better contrast control.

I've been exploring 35mm pinholes with a body cap pinhole on a Fed 4 body. These are with Kodak Vision 3 50D film developed in home-made ECN2 chemicals.

Sorry I haven't been around for a few weeks, I was marooned on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.  We had very poor communication with the outside world.  I started a photo essay about my trip https://filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=10657.new#new.  If you don't like pictures of birds you may want to avoid it.

Olympus Stylus 120 with expired Kodak Gold 200.

Somehow, that reminds me of a girl I know who's husband is a marine biologist. He was stuck for a few years on the Falkland islands...
I've never seen a anybody so happy to be leaving for Iceland!

Some of the people I was there with were staying for 6 months.  There’s no habitable buildings there, it’s all camping.  They had to bring all their drinking water and food to last that long.  I met a woman on the trip back that had just been picked up after a year there.  It takes some dedication to do that.

You definitely don't want to have a medical emergency while in those places. That's what would scare me the most.
On the Falklands, everything comes by military transport. They have one doctor on the island who does everything, including basic dentistry (a.k.a. pulling teeth). The girl I know needed a replacement hip, so they flew her on a military plane to Chile where she got on a plane to London in order to get her surgery. Definitely not something I'd recommend to anyone.

I served in the British Army late 70's til late 80's (Royal Engineers) and did 2 x 3 month stints on the Falklands, after the war (?) and although it was summer time in the southern hemisphere it was a grim place, hopefully with advances in life since then, it's a bit more hospitable now. We have a good laugh while there squaddie humour gets you through most things.

Their answer for that is a well stocked first aid kit and a satellite phone with doctors on call.  If they do need to get you off the island it will probably take 4 days to get a boat there and back.  If you’re lucky there’s a boat in the area.  I didn’t see another boat the entire time we were there.  It’s illegal to fish there and it’s not in any shipping lanes.  The best thing to do is try really hard not to get hurt.

Just knowing how clumsy I sometimes can be, it for sure won't be on my dream vacation list! 😆

By being illegal to fish there, you mean commercial fishing?
The locals can fish for thier own personal use, or no?

Nobody can fish there and there are no locals there.  The islands are very tiny and wouldn't make a very good place to live.  They do get poachers every now and then.  Right before we entered the marine preserve the crew on the ship caught two Wahoo.  We had fresh Sashimi, but after that there was no more fishing.

No more fishing unless it comes in a can...
Sounds like life on the shores of the Saint-Lawrence near Montreal.
Only difference is that it's not because of regulation but because nobody wants food poisoning!
Anybody cares for catfish with 3 flippers? 🤢🤮
