Drool at the George Eastman Museum
« on: December 22, 2021, 04:11:42 PM »
I can't remember if I already posted this or not.
But you can visit the George Eastman's technology vaults on Google Earth.
Lots of very cool stuff on the shelves.
Maybe they should organize a garage sale when the pandemic is over? (I know, one can dream 😁)

I've also spotted what looks to be a film sprocket machine... I need to get me one of those.

They have some nice woodies.

If you really want to get that January GAS going, I can recommend the museum's book 500 Cameras, purchased from RiverSupplies, rather than the museum.

I already have it... And somehow I can't tell if buying it was a good idea for my long term wallet 😌

Francois - of course it's a good idea for your wallet! Just think how much money you've 'saved' by buying your current collection of cameras before hipsters and fashion victims started pushing up prices.

But still... I sometimes sucker myself into paying for stuff I don't need at all... like that lovely Photoblaster I got a few years ago.

I live in Rochester and am a member of the Eastman Museum. Although there's always a rotating exhibition of selected items upstairs in the main gallery, this is the closest look I've ever gotten of the technology vault in the basement. I must say it's surprising that the equipment shelves do not seem to be labeled. I guess the curator of the collection, Todd Gustavson, keeps it all in his head.

He probably uses a section numbering system of some sort, a bit like hardware stores.
