My Mamiya problem
« on: May 03, 2021, 02:39:02 PM »
I have a problem with my Mamiya C33 in as much as it wont wind on past the 8th frame.
I know that I will have to get it fixed by a technician but was wondering if anyone had a similiar problem or any suggestion what has happened (it hasn't been dropped).
It will wind the film right through to the take up spool if I leave the back open, so I can only guess that has something to do with an interlock once the door is closed. The shutter will cock fire on the lens manually, so I could take multiple shots on the 8th frame if I wanted  to but I don't really.
Any suggestions are appreciated
Cheers Irv

Hi Irv.
Probably too obvious, but my initial thought is maybe the switch next to the winding lever has inadvertently been knocked off of the "Single" position?
Slightly different design on my c330... it's a proper two position switch, but from what I can see, on the c33 it's similar to the rear door catch, which is prone to spinning out of position.
Looking through the old "focal press" Mamiya C book, there's no trouble-shooter as such... although it does say that the shutter has to be cocked manually on the lens when the multi-exposure setting is selected, which sounds like the symptoms you're describing.

Have you developed the film Irv? Is the frame spacing up to frame 8 OK? Just thinking it might be advancing the film too far so you're only getting 8 shots on the roll. But I've never had a C so I might be completely off with this.

Hi Tony
Yeah that was my initial thought, but unfortunately that is not the problem, as even if it is turned to single the back again it still wont wind through frame 8.

Hi Pete
The frame spacing is fine. You can see the number 8 through the red window and the roll when developed looks fine. There is of course a 1/3 of a roll with nothing on it. Thanks for the thought though.
Looks like Aperture will have a camera to fix when I get a chance to get up there.
