Boring lighting question
« on: February 04, 2021, 12:56:55 PM »
I managed to finally get some decent studio lights (3 x Elinchrom 1200s)

Just the heads, which fit my old tripods no problem. I was hoping to use the existing softboxes from my old crappy set, but they do not fit.

Does anyone know Elinchrom fit from other manufacturers? Godox talk about Bowens mount but that looks to use an adapter. I think Elinchrom fits natively (but I can't be certain).

I found this: https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/elinchrom-fit-godox-ad600.666511/ but I don't know if that means previous models of Godox always fitted Elinchrom, or it is something they've done more recently.

Basically I want cheap softboxes for my expensive lights. So hit me with any recommendations if you have them.

All softboxes have a part that keeps them open. That part is called a speed ring. It also has the bayonet that fits the lights. So it's a speed ring for every manufacturer.

In the end, you might end up having to build a new ring from scratch.

You can get generic softboxes that fit like an umbrella. Don't work the same way but they work. Or I just use a shoot-through umbrella.

I use a numberof older studio Elinchrom unit and softboxes.  The only reliable speedring adapter I have read is from Godox and this one should allow you to mount most softboxes onto Elinchrom head:
https://store.godox.eu/gb/softbox-adapters/113-softbox-adapter-elinchrom-system-godox-sa-ec-6952344206539.html

I have Godox adapter which allow Elinchrom softboxes to be use with my camera flashlights:

Elinchrom softboxes have nice design and durable, worthwhile to look for used one.
