Igor Mukhin: Russian Photographer
« on: January 13, 2021, 08:37:42 PM »
Yesterday I was watching a short documentary on the Russian photographer Igor Mukhin.
He documented life in the USSR and now Russia starting in the 80's.
He works mostly in B&W and always on film. He's had an exhibition at the Multimedia Art Museum in Moscow.
Really worth checking both his photos and the museum online.

And here's part of the exhibition he had there

Thanks for sharing this Francois, I love his pics. I see that his sir-name is also spelled "Moukhin". It looks like MoMa has acquired some of his work, there are nine photos on their website. I found a book by him that's named "My Moscow" that is available online.

That's the one he wrote.
It's a bit funny because he says he puts all his photos under the Wikimedia license, not something I would do. He holds a full time position as a photography teacher at the Rodchenko school of arts.

Damn! Teacher at the Rodchenko School of Arts no less. What a wonderful thing that must be  :D  I had a look through the main gallery of portraits (mainly wonderful) and a few of the books too. "Moscow Light" looked particularly fantastic. Great find, Francois. Thanks.

Hey! No problem Ed.
I must admit that I cheat a bit these days. We now have a new TV channel available from our cable provider and since I haven't watched TV in about 10 years, mom added the channel to the package.
It's called Museum TV and it's produced by the same people who run Thema. The fun part is that the channel is dedicated to the visual arts.
So, if I don't watch photographers, I get to watch graffiti painters at work, or sculptors, or architectural marvels and so on.
They don't have many shows (lots of repeats) but what they have is quality.
And best of all, no stress, no politics, no sports, no blood, no crime, no drama on this channel.
