Just received an email from Polaroid Originals announcing the end of their Spectra film production. Many Spectra owners have experienced trouble with their cameras using the "Impossible" film. This is what the technical department of Polaroid Originals say:
"Our manufacturing team led an intensive, 6-month testing and improvement plan on Spectra cameras and our film. We optimized the dimensions and deflection angle of the ejecting film, reduced the pod weight, and lowered the mask friction through different coatings. We also carried out multiple battery tests with different voltages and currents from different suppliers. This fault is completely random and depends on many variables with each pack of film and the configuration of the camera circuitry. There is, unfortunately, no simple fix".
It seems the Spectra line were not made to the same standards as the SX-70 and 600 cameras, and many of them are now failing. Polaroid Originals are now selling their last batch of Spectra film. I'm lucky enough to have two working Spectra cameras, maybe it's because they have not seen a lot of use.
