1. Do not release the shutter button until the shutter has closed, because releasing the shutter button closes the shutter  :-[

Bummer. It's the sort of thing I'd do. I blame a) my age and b) having 'several' cameras means that what was once instinctive & familiar can often be forgotten when an old camera is used for the first time in quite a while.
