You'd think I'd learn....
« on: April 11, 2019, 09:28:18 PM »
I don't normally rant or have too bad of luck with buying things (okay I'll be honest it's always cameras) on the auction site...but..
I just got a Pentacon MTL 3, which I wanted for a rustic project I'm going to do this summer and needed a tank-ish camera for it...

anyway, on arrival, the camera has a stuck battery compartment, and the shutter speeds slower than 1/15 stick open for about a second or so before closing, plus the pentacon lens has sticky blades....
It was sold as working!
Really.  I'll probably keep it, but would like any suggestions on making the shutter speeds work. I've sat for the past hour working the shutter through all the speeds hoping something would shake loose and help it work again.
The lens is no biggie since I have another one that I can use...but if I can make it work then that would be cool too.
Grrr.
I should just learn my lesson and keep using my Zenits and K1000 and just chalk it up to a loss.

Lenses are usually pretty easy to work on. Annoying because they don't come apart easily but still in the very doable category.
I have a spanner wrench, some tiny screwdrivers, an old rubbery mouse pad to remove stuck parts and a loop style microfiber cloth to catch those screws.

But when it comes to repairing SLR's, the only ones I feel confident to work on are the old Minoltas. They're usually a dream to work on.

I think Peter R probably has advice on fixing it as he did fix quite a few cameras.
