Great start! all the shots are very moody and dramatic. I like it.

I encountered a small issue with my lab on some recent B+W film:

- Good news: there were exactly 100 roll numbers between my film and another customers, a very positive sign for the strength of analog photography at least locally
- Bad news: because the roll numbers were so similar visually, my film went to the other customer and I received his. Still waiting for the lab to receive my film, scan it, and return it.

So, another shot from the Horseless Carriage club meet at the end of December, a buddy's rare 1942 Mercury, one of only 1900 built before all personal vehicle manufacturing ceased and the factories converted for war production. If anyone's interested, there's a video of some of these cars in motion posted on YouTube: https://youtu.be/o-PCqee1zmU

Great weekend start and a nice variety too!
Mine's from a Mamiya RB67 that is like carrying an engine block around! It has the prism finder, so it's two pounds of extra weight! I should have nice biceps by the beginning of summer: !
An old pack of Polaroid laying around came to good use shooting snowfall out my back door. I like the shift to cyan that old polaroid has...I just need to find a stash of it to keep my habit going!

Great shots all around! Very brave of Francois to go out into the cold. No snow over here at the moment. Becky's Pola makes me miss my RZ67 - although it was the right decision to swap it for a Mamiya 6.

Some shots from the first role through a Leica M4 I got recently. (Finally wanted to see what all that fuss over the Leica cameras is about). Tri-X at box speed.

You say that because you haven't seen what we're getting hit by this weekend!
We have a severe weather warning for 30cm of snow with an extreme cold warning.... Within the wind chill factor it should feel like -40°C......

That is cold Francois! I would love to have some snow over here, but on the other hand am glad we don't have the "sit under a blanket with a mug of tea all day" temperatures. Some cold weather from Siberia is going to blow over here in the next weeks. Let's see what it brings.

François:  On Monday, I return to work, at home, in New England.  The temperature is forecast to be -16C.  There probably will be a mountain of snow in front of my door, waiting to be removed as well.  A few days ago, I was hanging out on the beach in the Alentejo of Portugal.  I set up my Century Graphic, loaded with Fomapan 100, then got a bit drowsy—a good lunch probably had something to do with this—and took a nice long nap, in the sun, listening to the waves.  When I woke up, someone who was fishing had appeared, so I took this picture.  Vacations are good because they contrast with the real life.  I fear that the real life of New England winter will be a bit too contrasty for me.

I just hope it's warmer for you...
I've just been out and I've never felt such gripping cold in my life!
I was freezing in my big snow jacket with a polar fleece vest under it. It's so cold that it feels like somebody hit you in the face with a tazer. I had a big scarf, a tuque a hood, some gloves and was still cold. Just breathing in the cold air burns... And I've been out for only about 10 minutes.

Mom was wearing two jackets and says that the cold just sucks all the energy you have to the point where it simply hurts...

Hope this won't last for long...

Hang in there, François.  I live in comfy southern New England but my ancestors came though Quebec.  I know enough about your neck of the woods to know that when  someone who lives in Montreal complains about the cold, then it is truly cold.  I hope that you have enough tea and books to get through the current cold snap.  Warmer weather will come.

No scans this week, but I did make some 4x5 contact prints! I snapped digital photos of the prints I made. I've used 10 sheets of film in my Intrepid 4x5 so far; these are negs #6 and #10. Regarding #10, I received assurance that the raccoon was a victim of time and nature, not of foul play. Also, as an aside: I am really loving the SP-445 large format developing tank I bought; it got some positive attention at the community darkroom. It is elegantly designed, uses minimal chemistry, and was easy to learn coming from medium format.

François, I hope that the extreme cold will be over soon.

Great shots this weekend! Sandeha's pinhole and Kai's geometrical photo especially caught my eye. Manuel, I'm glad that you like your Leica (is it a "Lika" then? Oh no, word play alarm... ;) ).

I got to use a gem this weekend (mostly because I felt in the mood for medium format and my Bronica won't work reliably at sub-zero temperatures). It's my Lipca Rollop I. I'm always surprised how well this camera works despite its simplicity (it definitely is not in the league of a Rolleiflex or similar). The Prontor shutter is still working nicely even at 1s. The only downside of this camera was its dark ground glass which I replaced with a brightscreen. It's a fantastic camera and I regret a little that I neglected it for such a long time. I shot the following shots at a castle ruin called "Domburg im Hakel" near the Harz Mountains. The castle was first mentioned in written documents in 1310 and it's very likely older than that. Unfortunately, only a number of walls are still standing. However, they're really impressive. We had excellent and warm light which is rendered nicely by the Kodak Ektar 100 that I used at box speed (dev'ed in Digibase C41). The castle is off the beaten paths in the Harz and it's well worth a visit.

I thought that a bit of sunshine from late last year may warm Francois up a little.

Just for your enjoyment (but mostly because I needed to shovel the front porch), I ventured out with the Instax.
We're in the middle of the big blizzard. Just went to the street to take a few shots. I wouldn't drive anywhere in this type of weather.

We finally got our first real dumping of snow in toronto. Supposed to be something like -35 tonight. Roads aren't too great. Driving my wife to work this morning we passed by a pretty bad accident that literally just happened.

I feel like when we get that -30 range we are on par with what it's like in Montreal. Just haven't had the same amount of consecutive cold days.

I remember having experienced lower than -20 °C in the Harz where we live but that was more than 10 years ago. I'm baffled that your Instax actually worked at such a low temperature, François.

-4 isn't too bad. Not comfortable if it's damp or windy but definitely not that bad.
I was looking at the satellite of the storm last night and it was definitely going over Toronto.
Cold weather like that brings a host of unexpected problems. Road abrasives don't work very well. Tires become surprisingly hard and slippery. The engine of the car has a hard time reaching a good temperature. Batteries die a sudden death. You never expect the seats to be that cold. If you wear glasses and a scarf, the vapor from your breath instantly fogs the glasses and you can't see a thing. The snow removal equipment does the rounds all night long (probably while listening to Lionel Ritchie). The roof of the house cracks as nails shrink.
Today, they closed down the airport. The US customs closed the border so that people wouldn't get stuck in Canada. The hospitals are overloaded and they advise the people to stay home if they're sick (that's reassuring). They say not to shovel that snow because it's dangerous for the back and too hard on the heart... but they don't say what the heck we can do with all that snow. The advise people who have asthma to stay in to avoid having an instant attack.
They say not to walk in the middle of the road, but you can't find the sidewalks anymore.

And to put the cherry on the cake, the power company tells people to reduce their consumption to avoid overloading the system... most of our houses have electric heating... They say not to use the dishwasher... picnic anyone?

As for the Instax, you have to warm the prints in your hands. Putting the prints in your mittens does work fine.

Hearing about this cold I promise I won’t moan about it being about 4 degrees C (won’t moan for about a week I mean).  Stay strong!  (And warm)

I busted out the 600se yesterday in a bid to keep two 5yr olds entertained.  It worked for about 10 minutes.

Trying to post off my phone,  can’t attach the picture,  no idea how to reduce file size on my phone...assume I can’t.   Itching to take my pinhole into town so hopefully will have something to post soon.

I must admit that keeping a bunch of 5 year olds entertained for some time is a feat in itself. Apart from magic tricks, puppies and Play-Doh, the answers are quite limited....;)

But at least you can send them playing outside. Here unless you want to have frostbite, you still have to stay in.

Just on a fun geeky note, environment Canada said that the last time we had similar weather was 99 years ago.... 1920 to be exact.

Puts you off spending money on a warmer jumper doesn't it, if they could guarantee it would happen a bit more regularly might not seem such a bad investment.

It's 60°F here in the San Francisco Bay Area and quite pleasant outside ;D

But in all seriousness, I am really enjoying this weekend's photos! (It's Martin Luther King Day here in the U.S. so I'm still counting it as the weekend) - I love all the snow photos, and also I haven't made a pinhole camera since I was 10 but it just might be time again.
