disposables...let's see some summer time shots
« on: May 16, 2018, 06:55:09 PM »
as much as I love pinhole and my Holga and my Zenit E and K1000, my quick and dirty love is for disposable cameras.
There's something very freeing about just sticking one in your pocket and going on the road. No worries about it getting nicked, and no fussing about with settings...just point and shoot. And if you are handy with a screwdriver and reloading, they are not too difficult to re-use.

Here's one to get things going if you have a desire to share yours too....

This was a Kodak Funsaver with 800 speed film that expired in August of 2017 which is way fresh for what I normally use..

great stuff.   DO you remember those wide disposables that were doing the rounds a few (??) years back - Im sure they were called the Konica Wai-Wai or similar?   I found one in my cupboard and keep meaning to try and get a new film into it..

I do remember them. They are hard to get these days!

A single use camera I wish I had picked up when they were available was Kodak's portrait model. If my dim memory serves it had a 73mm lens and a flash that reflected off a white cardstock flap that pulled up to a 45% angle. They were not on the market for very long, I don't think they sold well. Now information on them is very hard to obtain.
Does anyone here remember this model?

I don't remember seeing those around here. It's possible that the product never made it to Canada.

The Fujifilm Water Proof QuickSnap uses an 800 ISO film.  It takes bad pictures underwater and worse pictures on dry land.  This is about the best shot I got out of it a few years ago.  It's a Japanese Zero lying upside down at the bottom of the Philippine Sea in Saipan, MP, it's always summer down there.

I met Deon Reynolds in Eureka, Nevada several years back, he modifies a Kodak Fun Saver 35 and re-loads it with black and white film.  He does something to rough up the film mask to get a rough edge on the photos.

I semi-concur with Bryan's assessment of the Fujifilm underwater disposable. It is certainly crap below the water, but I did manage to take one of my favorite photos with it above the water. I've posted this one before. Also hello to one and all, they've blocked this site at work so my daily lunch break visits have been curtailed.

Adam, I really like the spontaneous feel of the water shot. It looks like a fun time!  8)

A photographer I originally heard about on the Inside Analog Photo Podcast, Deon Reynolds, does incredible work with wide disposables.  He reloads them as well with TriX.

Kodak had a panoramic disposable as well. I used one, once. Results were disappointing. The camera was promoted with "15 Exposures" which led one to think "proper, 3:1 aspect negatives; cool". Rather, you got a cropped pano image in the middle of a standard frame. I suppose this was to make things easier for the one-hour labs, but the one I used at the time wasn't quite sure how to print the images, so I got something like 30 prints that had to be trimmed and taped together to make the panorama. I'll see if I can find the prints or negatives.

Spontaneous is a good way to put it! We were in Turks and Caicos and had gone on an excursion on a boat out to a reef to go snorkeling. The water was a bit rough and we were bobbing up and down, up and down. I'm lucky I got him in the frame at all!  ;D
