Weekend 25th to 28th May 2018
« on: May 25, 2018, 06:37:36 AM »
Hello,

starting the weekend with a little pinhole from the recent holidays in Denmark. I took quite a lot of pinhole images during the vacation, but unfortunately I had some dust on the filter I put in the camara and the majority of shots are showing loads of large grey blobs. Sigh. Anyway, I fell in love with the pinhole again and hope to use it more often now.

I haven't had much time to go out and shoot recently, with work and all, but yesterday I decided to empty a roll of Ilford Delta 100 near a church/cemetery that is located close to a pizza parlor I like. I used the sunny 16 method as my phone was dying. These are test shots I wanted to take after the bitter taste from that Ektar roll I had first tried. Developed in Rodinal 1:25. First shot was at F/4 and the other at F/11. I think I'll enjoy the Bronica after all.

No adjustments to them, other than increasing the "output level" in EpsonScan.

Those ones came out great Miguel, was that the 220 back?  This was shot with a Leica IIIf using an Elmar 5cm lens.  The film is Kosmo Foto Mono 100 developed in beer.  More from this roll in the Photo Essay section: http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=9590.0

Hi Bryan,

Yes, with the 220 back. I get 15 1/2 ~ 16 frames with it. The only thing I realized is that when rewinding the film, the mechanism will lose tension, making it appear as if you're done rewinding, and when you open it there's still some film left. Not sure if it could be fixed but I'll just have to be careful. If I unlock the latches and open a tiny bit, then close it again, it will engage and allow me to keep rewinding what's left. It also happens when I try to rewind too fast, so perhaps doing it a bit slower will suffice.

Damion: Wonderful shots. Those memories will last a long time, thanks to film.
Manuel: Very nice shot, very moody.

Here are some test shots of my new MagnaLux-Delta DIY lens.
Now this thing is really something like I've never encountered before and it leaves me a bit without words. I've never shot anything at dusk on 250 ISO film with a shutter speed over 1/125th... and never massively overexposed a sunset at 1/1000...

What do you think of those tests? Quality of the scans is a bit low as the images were scanned fast to make an index sheet.

+1 for B+W photos of our children and grandchildren, in the digital era. These will likely be the only existing, recoverable image "files" when they become parents (and grandparents) themselves.

For this week, a recent shot of my grandson, from a wedding in which he assisted with ring-bearing. He has a presence in front of the camera that I've not seen with his sibling or cousins, or with his mother and aunt before him.

Leica M6, 50mm Summicron, Ilford XP2 (yes, I know, not exactly "B+W", but used in the interest of time since my lab needs a week to turnaround B+W but can do C41 overnight)

I'd say that's quite a soft lens you got yourself there, Francois.  ;)

Manuel, I love this pinhole. The composition is fabulous. The Bronica shots look brilliant, Miguel. I'd say the Bronica's in great shape! Damian, I agree with Earl, it's great to have these shots. I always worry what'll happen with the digital images I take now in 20 years. François, I like the last picture for its haunting mood. And Kai's right, the lens is rather... dreamy. ;)

I feel giddy tonight and post an unusually colourful shot (at least WRT the shots I normally take) that I've taken in Denmark. Zenza Bronica SQ-A on Portra 160.

And I'm just starting to try to figure out what the heck I can do with it.
It's weird because the dreaminess is like nothing I've ever seen before. It could lend itself to both beauty and nightmare... It's like a permanent fog machine.
When something is in focus, it's not too sharp but the DOF is close to zero.
Yet, when I look at the focus prism, everything is quite sharp.

Francois, the look of this lens reminds me of some of the old silent movies. You know, the moment when the hero met the massively over rouged heroine and they fell in love instantaniously...

It might be a great lens for some experiemntal portraits.

I love that opening pinhole Manuel. This was taken on WWPD but with a XA2 I brought along in case. The pinholes were awful but the series of 'let's look up at the branches' I was quite pleased with.

Great stuff, everyone! This is from a Vivitar Wide & Slim. The Amber Hotel, Pentrich, Derbyshire. I must do some pictures of the scenery surrounding it this weekend. It's gorgeous at the minute!

Earl, that shot is amazing on a number of levels.

I haven't had much time for shooting and developing as I started a new job a few weeks ago. Here is a salt print I made this weekend. Digital neg from a 4x5 CSG negative. 6x6 inches on Canson Aquarelle 90lb paper. I made a second one on a little 8x8 canvas that I got in a 6-pack from Daiso. It turned out comparably. I think I like contact printing as much as shooting the originals.

Thanks! I always cringe a bit when shooting against strong backlight but over the years I've gotten pretty good at guessing exposure compensation. Helps to have a willing subject as well.

Anyway, just driving with the pinhole on the steering wheel for a few miles, with fuji Across sloshed in caffenol for 8 minutes.

Holiday today here in the States, so I'm still technically within the confines of the weekend. We just got back from a week in Maine, which inevitably involved far too many cameras. In any case, here's one of the first shots I've processed and prepared. Looking east from the West Quoddy Head, the easternmost point in the US. Sail Rock in the middle distance, Grand Manan Island (Canada) in the far distance.

Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

I need to get a dusty red filter. Beautiful!

More Fuji patterns, this time using 2 pics of the same person instead of 1

This is super cool! You really nailed the feeling of a good roadtrip in one long exposure :)

Well, I would have posted these at the weekend, but my scanner wasn't working. Luckily as i guessed it was just the power brick, so one quick order later I have a new power brick and could scan. These are actually from the weekend before, but developed this weekend. Expired Fomapan 100, shot in a Zenit EM with Industar 50/2 lens (the lens I'd acquired recently), and developed 17 minutes in Caffenol,
