Weekend 1st-3rd December 2017

Last Sunday I was out in the pouring rain with my Leningrad and no light meter - it was quite fun, believe it or not.  :P

I love shooting in the rain, especially in cities.

Alas, no rain in this one. Haven't been out in the rain in a while actually. Probably because it hasn't rained in a while.

and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

I was out in the rain yesterday, I even took a few photos but they won't be back from the lab for about a week.  We put up the Christmas tree this week so it's time for my annual rotating tree Polaroid.  Polaroid Automatic 250 Land Camera using Fujifilm FP-100c.

Rotating Christmas Trees—very cool.

Walking around Boston, carrying a Century Graphic 23, isn’t the best way to take spontaneous street photos but the rig works well for architectural snaps and there is always the possibility of an accidental double-exposure.

I read somewhere that it's water that falls from the sky :). Last week, we had temps pushing 100 degrees and had to resort to water balloons, out in the back yard, to keep the kids occupied while dinner was being prepped. I've found that if I overexpose the lit areas of the lawn a bit, it kinda looks like snow.

Argh! Decided to shoot a roll of new Kosmo Foto in my Horizon 202. All seemed to be going well until i started to rewind the film, then something gave. Hoping it might just have been whatever was attaching the film to the spool rather than an actual rip, and hopefully I'll be able to salvage most if not all when I open the camera in the changing bag tomorrow morning.
Something to be aware of if you're using a roll.

Two pictures taken on a mountainbike tour with my Yashica T3 on expired Kodak Elitechrome 200. I was a little disappointed because the colours were quite dull and for some strange reason the film was quite stained with "muddy" staines in some places (I retouched some of photos to remove the stains). The film was probably too long expired.

Wonderful shots!

I absolutely loved the Polaroid one. The Elitechrome one as a very "hipster" vibe with the dull colours. I actually like them.

This one was taken with Satish's Olympus XA, on Kodak Ektar 100. Now, I may or may not have been drunk when developing the roll so I am pretty sure I messed up the process at some point. I think I left it developing for an extra minute or so. Not sure.

I corrected some of the extremely strong yellow/greenish cast on the beams since it had direct sunset light on it. And I think I also snipped it wrong, so a chunk of the photo might be missing. Damn you, Jim Beam.

As a bonus, here's Satish a few weekends ago, having brunch in NYC with my cousin and I.

I mentioned earlier I shot the first roll of my Kosmo Foto 100 film in my Horizon 202, when the film broke on rewinding it.
It had ripped, but I only lost two frames, so not too bad. Developed for three and a half mins in a 1+25 mix of Rodinal as per the instructions on the Kosmo Foto website.
Lessons:-
1. Don't use this film in a camera with an insanely convoluted film path
2. Don't use the Horizon 202 when the sun is low in the sky, as even if it's not in the frame it'll cause flare bars. Maybe painting the inside of the opening with matt black would help?

But I got some good shots:-

For the 1st December, quite a nice day, but I was glad I was using a plastic-bodied camera as the metal-bodied cameras just leach the warmth from your fingers on days like that.

Once again, great images all round.
Developed a film I exposed a couple of months ago, Fujifilm 400CN (long expired). Rodinal 1+25 for 18 minutes. Camera: Bronica. This is of the only remaining water mill (Pann Mill) in High Wycombe. Still functions, maintained by volunteers. The film was mostly underexposed, or I underdeveloped (?) - processing this C41 film in BW chemistry is a bit hit and miss, but it was my last roll (I think) so didn't want to send it away for processing. Same view, the toning was done in PSE, the other one was extremely underexposed but turned into a sort of lith print.

High contrast is on par with underexposure as you are exposing just a small shadow part of the contrast curve and then try stretching it to cover the whole tonal range.

A few more from some old rolls that just got developed.

One from Tampa in June, K1000 and I think Agfa Vista.

And one from Maine in October, also a K1000 and I believe it was Portra 400.
