Blogroll
« on: September 03, 2014, 05:40:26 PM »
I know a while back Ed was collecting feeds from Filmwasters' blogs and putting them into the FW blog, but that seems to have declined into just the Tumblr feed. I know I follow some blogs regularly such as Andrea, and Leonore and Urban, but it would be helpful to have a more complete list in one place. Maybe a mod can make this a sticky if it sounds like a good idea. For this I would like to keep it to actual blogs as opposed to Flickr or Tumblr feeds. Those things are great, but a blog usually has a little more info about the author or the particular photo(s) being shown, and that is really one of the most enjoyable things for me about a community like film photographers. So post up a link to your blog and maybe give a brief description of the 'kind' of things you like to write about.

Through A Glass, Darkly is my blog. I like to write about the technical bits of the hobby as well as my creative process. It is pretty rare that I just post a photo without some explanation of why I shot it, what kind of camera or film I was using, or how I developed it. The title of the blog is derived from 1 Corinthians 13:12 where Paul is talking about how humans perceive Truth and reality. He is saying that we are seeing an abstraction of these things. That is how I feel about photography. It is not a record of reality, it is an abstraction of it. We remove a dimension or two, we change or remove color, we manipulate our subjects. Photos are reality seen "through a glass, darkly" as if through an old mirror or a dirty, distorted window pane. This is how (especially film) photographers create.

Great idea. Here's my blog, the name says it all. No new posts because most of the work is done.

I am embarrassed to even include mine in what is soon to be a best-of-the-web type list no doubt, it is simply a place where I put down thoughts and simple explanations to which I can direct photographers who are less experienced than I (yes, there are one or two of them in the world believe it or not :P ). Also, I don't maintain it often at all :(

So without further ado, http://www.indofunkstudios.com

Here's mine: https://filmosaur.wordpress.com/

Some crossover with what I post here, some not. Semi-regular if fitful posting, which often consists of me rambling on at considerable length before actually getting to the photos. Some gear talk, which seems to get the most hits, and some photo postings, on which - in spite of the general lack of public interest - I'm trying to focus more effort. I try to keep the complaining and general belligerence to a minimum, but no promises.
Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

Just so that Indofunk doesn't feel lonely in the "not maintained" category. Here's my, shamefully not updated since June, blog:

I have a couple, one I wouldn't call a blog really - woefully out of date all of them

http://on-your-kitchen-worktop.blogspot.no/ (DIY related, cameras and Caffenol experiments)

http://silver-halide-salt.blogspot.no/ (just BW pics)

http://itsjustfilm.wordpress.com/ (film in general, 52 rolls in 52 weeks specifically)

Don't condemn Tumblr so fast. It's just as good for blogging as the rest - it's just how people use it.

Here's mine.

I do post pics but mostly I try to add some words to them. But I also post anything photo related and a few that aren't - including some musical posts of what I'm listening to at present.

I'm not condemning it (I use it in fact), I just don't think of it as a "blogging" platform. I rarely see anything more than a caption or a link to Flickr on photos there. Maybe I'm not following the right people. Is there a film community there? It is sort of unique in that you can like or reblog, but not comment. That makes it harder to connect with people there (I think).

Ah, this is a sign! I haven't updated my blog in an obscenely long time, but lately my writing fingers have been itching. Now it's pretty clear that it's time for me to start writing again. I can't promise that it will be updated frequently, but I will definitely stop neglecting it.

So...deep breath...I'm at http://moderndinosaur.wordpress.com

(It didn't start out as a photography blog, but I did use it for my 365 Project last year, so it sort of turned more into photography than not. But in general, it's sort of a musings+pictures kind of a thing.)

Like a lot of people, I do have a blog that I rarely update: http://urbanhafnerphotography.com/blog ::) Now that I've sent off a few rolls to be developed and scanned I may have something to share in the next weeks, though.

Well, here is my current contribution to the wealth of web content. Not sure where it will go as of yet, but it's currently a place to a photo dump with some words to tie things together a little.

I know this is an old thread, but it seems the appropriate place to post this:

As a precursor to a long overdue redesign of my little website, I've just recently started a new blog (putaframearoundit), which, if you fancy, you can find via the link below.
Only a couple of posts thus far, but I've more in mind. You're most welcome to visit and, as always, comments and critiques are positively encouraged.
