Topic: new Chinese B&W films???

During a trawl of ebay, came across these 2 items

Shanghai B&W film -Item number  200170640742

Sheet Film

and

Era B&W film, items number  320181217684

Anyway  - from my very little knoweldge of film production, its unlikley these are made in house and are more likley made by one of the big players?   - And Kodak has links in china??

so is this simply knock off kodak stuff?  or lucky stuff?

although maybe good to see that china might be picking up the slack of film production...although if you were ever worried about the nasty chemicals involved in film production -maybe this isnt quite the best news in that respect.

I believe they are made in china though I think ERA has a connection with Kodak. Era is a lovely film - I have used it a lot. Shanghai stuff less so.

Seconded on the ERA B&W 100 , very reasonable from Taiwan

I gather Era is a different production company from Lucky.  But I also once heard that Era was going out of production ... in any case this Shanghai sheet film is quite a different packaging from Era, so it may be an unknown.

Era 4x5 sheet is lovely stuff.  Two boxes in my fridge.

ERA going out of production!!! maybe its time to buy that  30 rolls i have been umming and ahhing about!!!

there's a write up on some of the chinese films here.

i really liked the era 100 film too. i'm in the process of getting some more(the first roll was a gift, but there's someone local who sells it you just need to ring him up apparently).  unfortunately, it looks like era 100 only comes in 35mm.  i've tried lucky in 35mm which i liked. i plan to try out both shanghai and lucky films in medium format to see how i like them in the near future.

just finished my first roll of 120 shanghai film. i haven't processed it yet. but something worth noting is that the backing paper for this film is black. with numbers etc printed lightly in white. if you are using a camera with a red window to view exposure numbers it will be rather hard to read. i shot this roll in a holga and before i even shot my first shot i had to unload the camera in a changing bag to rewind the film as i'd wound past the first few numbers without knowing it.

I have used the GP3 Shanghi 100 it good for the price. It is a bit contrasty and the film is a bit thin so loading it can be frustrating. Especially when you have not loaded film in a while. Here a shot using GP3 100asa from my english bakelite 6x6 Cor0net.

hi jerry - welcome to Filmwasters .... you might want to try resizing your pics to about 500-650 pixels on the longest edge at 72dpi ....
