Topic: The incredible unbelievable fixer jar lid hole

Last night I was a bit bored so I fired up the lab for the first time in a while.
But when I went to pour the fixer, something odd caught my eye. A big brown chunk inside the lid.
So, I scratched it using my finger nail and to my surprise, it was rust. And even more to my surprise, there was a hole eaten straight through the metal lid!
Now I know fixer will dissolve metal, but fixer vapor?
The inside of the lid is plastic coated, so there must have been a scratch in the coating and that's all it took.

This makes me feel much better about inhaling fixer fumes (and its nastier cousin blix fumes) on a near-daily basis

Right where you would expect it, where the jar wears against the lid.  The pH of Ilford Rapid Fix is around 5, so it's fairly acidic.

Let me tell you it surprised me to no end. And I thought the sprayed-on plastic liner would do the job...
