Hi.

Any London bods know any decent labs in / around the city?

Damion:

Are you talking traditional B&W, C41 or E6?  Nothing much in the City.  You need to get over to Tottenham Court Road side of town:

If C41, E6 or trad B&W, I can definitely recommend "Bayeux" http://www.bayeux.co.uk/

Just around the corner from Bayeux is Aperture (yes, the camera shop) on Rathbone Place.  They do a good job with C41 (colour and black and white) http://www.apertureuk.com/Film_Processing_London.html

Snappy Snaps on Bishopsgate (near Liverpool Street) do a decent job for C41 but they tend to turn the settings up to 11 when it comes to sharpening scans, so I always ask for them to turn off sharpening, etc.

All of these will require a 24/48 hour turnaround but Bayeux can do inside a couple of hours, at a surcharge.

Not in the city as such but Robbies Photographic in Balham (a 15min train ride from Victoria) have done 120mm in a couple of hours for me before. just phone beforehand

If UK Film Lab hadn't buggered off to Canada and in the process of setting up as Canadian Film Lab (I kid thee not  ), I'd have definitely recommended them.  The post up to Chesterfield was worth it as they've done lovely work for me in the past.  I haven't used AG (presume they must be okay if you're using them again?) but I've seen work done by Peak and it looked excellent.

I have previuosly used "The Darkroom Uk" and they have quite reasonable prices with good quality work. They also let you print out a freepost label to send the films to them.

Thanks, Irv and Paul for the suggestions. I sent a ton of films off to Peak last month (about 5 years' worth!) and their service was great, but I'll check some of these other options in case the prices are lower. I'm off to France tomorrow for a couple of weeks driving around and will probably (for the first time in years) take a 35mm SLR with a load of film. I'll be needing a lab when I get home.

We're going near La Rochelle to start and then down to Bordeaux, then inland to the Dordogne for a few days before working our way home via Tours and Rouen.

My mom's old uncle came from LaRochelle.
Be sure to check out the nice streets covered with Quebec rock.
We used to export wood in the shape of ships. Since the boats needed weight at the bottom so they wouldn't topple over, they filled them with rocks. Once in LaRochelle, they'd take the rocks to pave the streets and dismantle the ships to use the lumber for other purposes.


BTW, if you have a chance to go to Carcassonne with Joe, he's just gonna go medieval crazy. The place is awesome!
