Based on last nights programme,
Camera's provided by the program makers/sponsors, and I didn't see a film based option and
6 hours to take images, followed by post processing, next day(?). I doubt if there is a film option. With one image to be submitted for judging.
Although I think a film image would add an interesting element.
Whilst they were post processing Alex Web a photographer with a reputation for street photographer, wandered amongst them commenting on their images.
The photographers were chosen based on a portfolio of images submitted for consideration, and it made for an unusual diversity of the photographers. Professional, amateur and differing styles. I believe that one of the photographers portfolio consisted of mainly self portraits and another abandoned buildings. So how they made the selection of the contestants is a mystery.
It was interesting that despite the task being to produce a photo that showed the beauty of Rome, that some of them seemed to inject their style onto Rome, which in my mind seemed to be wrong.
For example.
The photographer who was into self portraits, took what I thought was a relatively ordinary photo of a fountain except she injected herself into the scene by sitting on the edge.
I also think it was unfair to eliminate a contestant in this programme. The judges commented that they felt the photographers were trying to make an image that would please them, and they should have been constrained by this.
When presenting their final images, I think we did not get an opportunity to review them for long enough. I found it frustrating that initially they were shown with a misty effect and then we were shown a clearer image, but for too short a time.
Having said all this, I will watch the next episode and finally, I didn't try and enter. Who am I to really judge.
