Michael Kenna Speaking Here in NYC at B&H Event Space
« on: March 16, 2016, 03:45:53 PM »
Hi all,
This has been in the works for a while and I've been dying to tell you, and now I finally can announce:

Michael Kenna will be speaking here in New York City, on June 5, as part of B&H Event Space's OPTIC event. Like last year's OPTIC (which stands for Outdoor Photography Travel Imaging Conference), and all our workshops, it is completely FREE.

I'll have more details soon on how you can sign up. But for now I am REALLY EXCITED!!! 8) 8) 8)

I hope to see you there!

Deborah

That is a real coup.  Such a shame I won't be there.

Met Michael a couple of times at Beetles + Huxley Gallery in London when he was launching his "France" and "Japan" retrospectives.  He is a true gentleman and always happy to share his thoughts / insights very freely.

He still shoots film - he had his 'Blads with him at the France book launch as he was just off to Japan to shoot the final photo for the Japan book.

I'm sure you'll have a fantastic event, Debbie, and like Charles, I wish I was able to attend.

It is! I've been trying to wrangle him in for four years.

Yes, he is absolutely lovely. I've heard him speak at a gallery book signing before and he had a great way of handling a guy who was, essentially telling him he was doing everything wrong by still shooting film. No ego, just zen. He's terrific!

Hi again,

Here is the website where all the info will be: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/promotion/11793/optic-2016.html

Michael Kenna's portion will most likely be live streamed, so you'll be able to watch it even if you can't make it here to NYC. As soon as I have the link to that, I'll post it here. And you can go to the link above to sign up for updates. And all of it is free.

If anyone is interested in attending Michael Kenna's talk in person, here's where you sign up: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/eventDetails.jsp/id/2314

It is free, but you still need to register.

And if you cannot be there in person, you can watch the livestream here:

Thanks Debbie.

Is there any possibility of this event being recorded and posted onto YouTube / Vimeo for those of us who might want to see more speakers and/or not be able to watch the live streaming?

It is supposed to be recorded and posted to our YouTube channel, but I'm not sure how long afterwards that might be. But it will eventually be posted.

That would be fantastic - and worth the wait, so long as it's available universally (I've had a couple in the last few months where I've had a message flash up that "this channel isn't available in your area" or something similar).

He's that happened on the B&H YouTube channel? That shouldn't be happening, so please let me know and I'll ask someone to check into it. Thanks!

Hi Debbie.  Not, not B&H.  I can't recall which site (or even subject) but it surprised me that any YouTube content would be unavailable in somewhere like the UK.

If it was an official music video, or even any video with licensed music content, then yes, the old antiquated copyright laws are region-specific. I'm sure the same applies to movies, samples, clips, or anything else.
