First batch of Parodinal
« on: April 27, 2016, 11:10:44 PM »
Mixed up a batch of parodinal last weekend and had some time today to dunk some expired FP4 Plus that I had shot in a donated Oly Pen EE.

What was the recipe and how do you think it compares to Rodinal?  Can it "develop anything"?

Recipe was the standard one:
-30x 500mg Paracetamol tablets
-50gr of Sodium Sulphite (Anhydrous)
-20gr of Sodium Hydroxide (Anhydrous)
-Water (distilled) to make 250ml

This is the 'cloudy' version that people seem not to like. I'm not sure why, but I think it is aesthetic and not in any way functional. The developer worked as expected. I suspect that it will "develop anything" (c) Indofunk 2016. It cost about $1.50 in materials, so maybe 1/3 the cost of buying Adonal from Freestyle. I think for the next batch I will try doing an alcohol extraction of the paracetamol first. Why?? Why not? I am going to develop the triple print film you sent in this and see how it goes. I might add some KBr to reduce fog and extend the time a bit.

I like kitchen chemistry.

You didn't want to call it Tylenolenol?

I prepared my version of "kitchen rodinal" once, but my recipe, even it contains the same ingredients than yours, had different proportions, i.e.,

  • Paracetamol - 4 gr
  • Sodium Sulphite (Anhydrous) - 10 gr
  • Sodium Hydroxide (50%) - 4 gr

I also let the mix rest for 72 hours before its first use. To mix the developer, I diluted 1+39 and used 1+25 official times.

Well, with all that paracetamol, it's very unlikely to develop a headache.... ;D
