Chinese New Year 2016 in London
« on: January 04, 2016, 05:10:58 PM »
As it is a month or so for the celebration of the CNY 2016 in London, I'm posting the date now so you can put it in your diary.

It will be on Sunday, 14th February 2016.

As it happened last year a group of photography friends of mine will be meeting near Leicester Square tube station.
Everyone is welcome.
 :)

Hi Ricardo.

Sounds like a good reason to waste some film.  Not been to the London celebrations before but, if the ones in Manchester are anything to go by, it should be a colourful and noisy time.

I'll confirm nearer the date but nothing in the way at the moment :)

Paul.

Hi Ricardo.

I've just checked the train timetable for this weekend and it appears that there are major engineering works which would necessitate getting two trains, a bus replacement and a tube journey to get the 55 miles from where I live to Liverpool Street.  Why they choose the weekend that contains both Valentine's Day and the Chinese New Year to make these changes is a mystery.  Actually, they also did this at Christmas, so I can only presume it's designed to p*ss off as many paying customers as is humanly possible, in as short a timeframe as possible.

It's not like we pay £4,300 a year each for a commuter season ticket, though.  Oh, come to think of it, it is  >:(

Anyway, sadly, I won't be dragging my beloved into London this weekend - which is a disappointment as we are usually very much up for a photo-wander and meet up with the good folks from Filmwasters.

Hope others can make it and it's a good day.

Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul

Sorry to hear it.
Last year was the same: some couldn't come due to engineering works messing up the weekend.
Hope others can come.

Regards, Ricardo

Really frustrating, Ricardo.  Hope some managed to get there.

I sent both Abellio Greater Anglia and Network Rail an email asking why, in particular, the weekend containing Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day had been chosen to perform engineering works.  I don't dispute that the work needs to be done but it could have been done earlier or later in the month.

As it happens, the cold(ish) snap led to an overrun and my commuter train to London was also cancelled this morning.

There's still a roll left in a FE2 to be finished this week.

Nice set of photos, Ricardo.

After a not too early start, Lara suggested a trip up the road to Aldeburgh (Suffolk coast). It was "bracing" to say the least.  I gave the 'blad its first outing of the year (results will be in next weekend's thread) and I spoke to a fellow commuter who'd travelled into London on 14th and he said he'd had a long and frustrating journey.

Let's see if we can get a Springtime FW meet organised...
