Work in progress...
« on: August 31, 2007, 11:39:29 AM »
Slowly, I am building the elements for a book. One day, I hope to have enough street portraits to make something moderately interesting. This is the latest addition. Next to a temple's omiyage shops he was sitting in the shade on a sticky day, watching the passing parade, and enjoying a slow drink...

A man who sitting in the shade with himself and a cold glass of black coffee commented today was chotto mushi-atsuii.

beautiful addition Skj.

Moody, gritty... love the textures--perefctly Skorj.
My only comment is that my eyes go toward what is on the table first, rather than the man. For me, I wish there was less on the table so I'd instantly go to his face. And perhaps it's because the table is so hot---maybe it would work better for me if you burned the table  top in a bit...Not sure. But I'm nitpicking now!!!

Great work as always

P.S. was this shot with the 600SE?

i think you probably have enough great shots for a couple books at this point. are looking to self publish or find a publisher? i see so many completely crap photo books that some decent stuff like yours should garner some professional interest.

i've thought about putting something out at some point...maybe on odd things in AZ or whatever.

on a side note, some rock band, "crowfish",  from bulgaria wants to use some of my stuff for their 4th album. nifty.

Yup! Suspect this is the case. Thanks, that's the sort of work detail I need to pass over each frame; just that little bit of work to provide the balance for each one. I get lost looking at my own work, and cannot address the detail.

are looking to self publish or find a publisher?

Publishers are notoriously hard to win over, and take a wicked cut. I might follow the pre-tried magazine route we used - start small, think big... Unless someone comes knocking of course! Snork. Album covers I like.

Just tell me when and where to send the money for the book!

Arigato! That's one sale. Grins.

You are so fuddy. Probably one of your best..if not, thee best...but of course you knew that. I say full speed ahead with that book darn it. With this on the cover. Concept? Style? Inquiring minds want to know.

Like the image.  But agree with Susan.  The thought was in my head first thing.  The printing/scanning is bringing out the wrong thing I think.

Have you thought about putting together the dummy for the book with Blurb.com or Aksuka Books or one of the less versatile but cheaper management/publishing tools?

thanks!

Skj, Gordon makes a good point. I suspect that working with a good printer would take yo' already rather amazing work to another level...and maybe taking direction on a point or two from seasoned print vets like him and SB/Leon may be a good call too. I'm only saying this because when I buy the book I want it to be amazing.

That one is a keeper for sure.
I look forward to regular updates on the trials and tribulations of publishing..
