All I can say is ouch!

I wonder what that process could be called?

No kidding on the ouch, but also pretty neat*. But that surprises me that it works... I though pretty much any plastic blocks a lot of UV light. He must have really been punching a lot of photons through those negs!

It sounds like the burn is quite mild if exposure to sunlight causes the image to dissipate quickly. It might be more of a 'reaction' or histamine response to the UV than an actual burn. An oiled paper negative would transmit more UV and probably cut the exposure times in half for the same effect. It is a pretty cool idea, related to chlorophyll prints made on living leaves.
