New to the forum
« on: November 14, 2014, 11:41:36 PM »
I have posted a couple photos on the weekend thread ive seen go around.

Everyone here seems very nice as well talented! My real name is Louie, i thought Huevos rancheros woulld be funny. Anyways thought id introduce myself as i've seen a few other people do.
I live in southern Humboldt County, in Northern California. My hometown is Redway, where i grew up. very rural town here.

Anyways, I'm new to film, for the most part. & I'm actually selling all my Digital SLR & lenses to fund a new film system, because there is something about digital that doesnt feel organic, & for some reason not having a screen is a thrill for me. I have been shooting on a yashica mat 12g, yashica electro GT, polaroid colorpack land camera, & choosing between buying a Leica m6 along with a voigtlander 21 f/4 or looking further into a medium format system

https://satchmo-louie.squarespace.com this is my website if you care to take a look. Hope everyone is having a good day!

Welcome and I'm sure you'll enjoy your time with the gang.

You've got very different system options there.  My only advice is to go with the camera that suits your predominant style of shooting best.  If you like landscapes, the MF option might be best.  If you like spontaneous, street and more "casual" style shooting, the Leica is hard to beat.

Whatever you do.....enjoy  8)

It's ok to shoot digital and film, a bunch of us do here! It's all about choosing the right equipment for the job. I myself always shoot on film for my personal purposes, and I shoot digital for jobs that require immediate turnaround, or have low lighting. Or both :)

Based on your domain name, you seem to have an affinity for trumpet jazz! I play trumpet (that's actually my main occupation), although I hate playing jazz (played it for way too long, got disaffected with it). I now play mostly funk, rock, experimental music, that kind of stuff 8)

And welcome!

A Leica M2 with a Voitlander light meter on the shoe might be a bit cheaper than an M6.  For MF, I love my Mamiya 6, which is easier to handle than a Leica.

Hahah, very cool! Thanks everybody!

Indofunk- totally! my parents actually named me after Louis Armstrong, hence the middle name satchmo. & that sounds fun! playing trumpet & all! Though, i dont think im sick of jazz just yet. haha. I got my love for nina still. & luckily i will still have my digital fuji (x100) & just being getting rid of the digital canon stuff.

jojonas~ - thanks a bunch man! I'm leaning more towards a leica!!! since thats all im thinking about lately.

hookstrapped- its funny, because the medium format option i was thinking of was either a Fuji GSW690 or the mamiya!

Anyways, thanks everyone! Really like seeing everyones work on the weekends threads & whatnot! Great place you all have here!

Have a great night(or day) everyone!!!!

Woah! That's deep that two of your names come from Louis Armstrong! I've heard conflicting reports as to whether he called himself Louie or Louis, but based on your name I'm going to set myself firmly in the "Louie" camp from now on  :D
