Trying to find how to add a 545 Polaroid back to my 600 SE, I came across this. While I know I can try and get the integrated NPC thingy, I was trying to see if there is a raw adapter that takes the 545 I already have. I am no wiser... Tips? Arigato. Skj.

Hi Skorj!

As far as I know, the Mamiya Universal, though both are very similar to your Polaroid 600, they are also totally incompatible with each other.

You might find the information you are looking for (and a lot you are not ) at the Medium Format Library

Thanks! I've been looking, including on the MF stuff. But, to no avail. The lens mount is different of course (I have both), and the back tangs are slightly different, with some SE backs fitting Universals 100%, and you could also go the other way if you notched the Universal tang SE-style.

But, my issue is away from this, it is if or not the 545 goes into an `M` adapter, a `G` adapter, or some other Mamiya thing. I had thought the 545 would fit into the `G`, but it appears not (as many of the Mamiya back parts are also available with SE mounts)... Oh the pain. Skj.

I must admit I never quite understood why they made 2 cameras that look identical, produced in the same factory but sport small modifications that makes them incompatible with one another...

I'm probably jumping in too late (a month!) and out of place on this thread, but I've been looking for the same adapter to attach a 545i to my 600SE. I came across a guy on the photo.net board who apparently makes said adapter. His name is Tony Sansone and he lives in Florida. From his email:

"I have the 545i backs for the 600SE--the ones that attach right to the 600SE.

They are the same as the NPC, except that they are much stronger and I think the film plane is a bit more consistent/accurate.  Also, depending on the particular NPC back, there is more film image area."

I like the sound of that! I now have an NPC-style back, and have not used it because of its obvious lack of full-frameness. I've been meaning to hack into it with my Dremell, but I've had other things to do. I might see if this address responds to a question about coverage. Thanks!

I spoke with Tony this afternoon and subsequently bought one of his attachments. He's got the whole bit, so you don't actually need a 545i holder. Apparently the adapter is permanently welded to the holder. He was also very knowledgeable about the 600SE in general and does other repair work for them. Although I'm sure Japan is loaded with 600SE experts!
