Thought I would start off on the right foot, by posting a photo. This was taken with my Speed Graphic on Kodak CSG x-ray film. Enjoy and glad to be here!

Welcome Mr. James!  :)

Have you read by any chance the Filmwaster´s canons concerning the usage of Speed Graphic camera and X-ray films?

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I have been trying to take in the site. It is pretty unique in its organization (articles, photo essays, etc.) and I am enjoying getting the 'feel' of the community here.

I have not. Could someone provide a link?

KevinAllan, someone read my blog??? All this time I thought I was just screaming into the void!  :) Thanks for the encouragement.

Here is my most viewed photo on Filckr. Seriously... who can resist?

Hello Jharr!!  I am happy to say that here in Filmwasters there are no canons (sorry for the bad joke), it´s an easy place to be, no norms only common sense; well there are certain rules that I do not recall right now, so may be there are not so important  ::)

Welcome again!

CArlos.

;D Subtle joke appreciated. Sorry I didn't get it at first, but I can see now that this is a more 'laid-back' community where 'canons' may not get generated like on some of the other more specialized or technical forums. I guess the only rule to really keep in mind is 'no digipics allowed'. And that's just fine with me.

No digipics allowed, unless of course its a picture of something film related. You may not always have your LF view camera handy ;)

Besides that, what would be the point of wasting a perfectly good sheet of 4x5 on something as trivial as a new exposure meter?

BTW, the dog pics always score points, especially hounds (they're quite popular among some of us).

I'm impressed with whatever technique you're using to develop your x-ray sheets as whenever I do I scratch the emulsion.

I'm impressed with whatever technique you're using to develop your x-ray sheets as whenever I do I scratch the emulsion.

I have a couple of large red serving trays that are about 11x17x1.75 inches (28x43x4.5cm). They are smooth bottomed (and who doesn't like one of those?) and round cornered. I do large sheets in there and agitate very gently in 1L of chemistry. I get a few very small scratches if I get too aggressive. Also I generally develop x-ray film in Adonal (Rodinal) 1+100 x 4.5 min, so there isn't much agitation really going on. Just a few tips of the corners every minute or so. I don't have a safe light (see this) or a darkroom timer, so I count 60 heartbeats (got that from Foucault) and call it just under a minute. That's about it. No special technique, just a light touch.

Thanks again everyone.

Thank you Alan. Boris is the easiest model in my house. Whenever I feel like taking a photo, there he is laying around waiting. He even has his own Facebook page where he incessantly complains about his lot in life.

The sight hounds are a special collection of breeds indeed.

Wow, those tones for the Xray film are so lovely!  I've been thinking of using xray film (and have some in the freezer).  But am a bit daunted by the scratching issues and the fact that I only have the capability to develop on (JOBO) reels. Welcome, James!!

Thanks Ann. I haven't really tried this, but for tube development, I would think that you could put the film into the tube, let the side contacting the tube get scratched and under-developed, but then bleach it off after drying. That would leave you with the pristine side, slightly thinner, but still good for scanning. Just a thought.
