Photographic stores in NY
« on: September 27, 2013, 12:05:59 PM »
Hello all! I have a friend who's going to New York soon and he'd love to visit some stores where he can buy some photographic equipment (chemicals, films etc...). He knows BH and Bostick and Sullivan already... any others somebody could recommend?

Thanks :)

I was going to suggest Lens and Repro but I see they've been closed (and swallowed up by Calumet).  Calumet is worth a visit I suppose at 22 West 22nd Street.  Haven't been there in years, though.

if they need film b&h is the place to go. If going soon check the store holiday hours.  They have lots of Jewish holidays, so does adorama. Both of those stores close 2pm on fri, closed on sat. Sometime, I'd go to Fotocare a mile away when that happens. k&m is a few blocks from impossible project gallery, near chinatown/littly italy.

For Friday afternoon and Saturday shopping, Fotocare and Calumet are on the same block of 22nd Street, between 6th Ave and Broadway. A very good lab, Vista + CRC is also on that block a couple doors down from Calumet.  Fotocare doesn't have chemicals but has film, Calumet has a limited selection of chemicals (e.g., D76, Extol) as well as film.  Both have a small selection of used film cameras though I like Adorama best for ogling that stuff.

You mean there are stores other than B&H?
