A really exciting start! I'm very curious to see where this leads, but so far pretty awesome. Love that it went film-wards first, too.

Well, film is the simplest thing to use. Just imagine trying to print and wire-up an electronic sensor of decent quality!

i love that you can see the bead layers on the sides of the film on the negatives! wow!! Ive been eyeing up 3d printers for the last year or so. I REALLY want one. I have quite good 3D skills. There have been so many times I've wished Id had a 3d printer. I could make so much with it.

The cheapest way is to build a rep-rap machine. It's totally open source, the hardest thing is fetching all the parts.
Then, there's the makerbot which is still slightly expensive but at least you can buy one for cheaper than a new car! I think there are clones of the replicator1 on ebay... You can get something basic for around 700$ and use it to make the parts for a bigger rep-rap machine

I would think that the easiest reflex shutter to design would be a drum shutter as found on the Exa model 1. Of course, due to shutter opening cutoff the longest lens that can be used is about 115mm if I remember correctly. Top speed on the Exa was  limited to 1/150, also a limitation. However for a toy camera with reflex viewing and interchangeable lenses it could be a fun project. The Lomo Konstructor has a shutter somewhat like a drum shutter but has a very small, almost useless opening.
