Anyone shooting Pentacon Six on a tripod?
« on: December 14, 2012, 07:55:51 AM »
Hi guys and gals,
in a trade I recently acquired a Pentacon Six TL outfit - nice camera, I've been eyeing these for some time. However, I mostly take pictures with the camera on the tripod and when i tried to attach the QR plate (arca type, with tiny bits of rubber-y things) the plate has too little space to actually prevent the camera from rotating on the plate despite being fastened with a screw as tight as I dare. Any Ideas what could help here?

Snapshot of Pentacon's "bottom" - courtesy google.

Thank you for any advice

Hi Andrej, I haven't used a P6 on tripod but I do have a camera with very similar tripod mount with the same problem.
I got round it by putting a small piece of cardboard between the mount and the plate to tighten the gap. Not the most elegant solution but it worked for me.
Good luck!

yeah, that or something rubbery? I'd cut up an old bicycle tube if I had one.

I'll be looking forward to seeing the results. they seem like fine cameras with some sharp lenses avaliable :)

Exactly what I did with mine before I sold it. It just needs something a bit grippy for more friction.

These are lovely cameras, but a bit cranky (especially the dreaded frame-overlap problem)

Thank you, guys! Jonas - you give me an idea... Not bicycle tube but maybe some sort of sealing gasket.... We'll see.
As for the results - I am curious as well - I've also heard much about the lenses, to accompany the body I have the obligatory 80mm Biometar but also the 50mm Flektogon which should be rather a good piece of glass... Unluckily and despite all my hopes and plans there will be no testing this weekend since a truly nasty cold overcame me yesterday...

Yup, something like that :) What camera is that one mounted on? An EC-TL? How comes that?

I know that photo!

After Bronica lost Nikkor as a lens supplier, Carl Zeiss was working on adapting a variety of lens designs to the Bronica MF system. More common is the 75mm, but there are other various misc lenses around. Many companies reused some of the lens designs from other MF, 35mm tele, and mated them to the bronica focusing unit, or a redesigned focusing unit compatible with a range of the manufactures lenses.

It's a Belgian site from the Wallonie part of the country (that's why it's in French).
The guy has a bunch of tricks on his site. That's where I first learned about burroni film developing and a host of other tricks. Just check out the "Bricophoto" section.

Have you try the P-20 Arca-Swiss Style Lens Plates from Wimberley? They have a dual-nub design at one end to claw up a vertical surface.  Together with the mounting screw, I have mounted a number of odd shape cameras vertically without twisting.
Addicted to Kodachrome, Medium Formats, Polaroid, Russian lenses and big shinny objects.

MJL, thank you for the suggestion - I haven't even heard of wibmerley... :) But considering the plate itself would cost me practicaly more than the camera I'll try the rubber gasket first.. :)

If that doesn't work to your taste, you can always try modifying the plate by adding some Sugru to it.
https://sugru.com/

the stuff is easily shaped when fresh and hardens to a hard rubber when dry. You could put some kitchen cling wrap on the camera, put the sugru on the base plate, tighten them together, shape the sugru with your fingers and let it dry. That way the camera would be separate from the base plate but the plate would have the same shape as the camera for a perfect fit.
