Any filmwasters in Hertfordshire?
« on: April 24, 2007, 03:11:27 PM »
Just curious if there are any filmwasters in Hertfordshire as the wind may be blowing me that way and i am curious as to whats out there... public darkrooms, galleries I may want to check out, places to buy film/get it processed. I have mixed feelings about this and I really actually hope not to move, although the UK is lovely BUT... you never know, opportunities are a calling.

you may be moving to Hertfordshire long-term???  wow.  I dont really know the area - it's a sort of "Middle England" area I think.  Mostly commuter area for London workers.  Public darkrom are pretty scant throughout the UK so dont hold your breath ..........  sorry I couldnt be more helpful.

Laura – it's England. The good thing is, by US standards Hertfordshire is close to everywhere!

I'm afraid I can't be terribly helpful though. The only thing I know about it is that it was the county I'd go through on the train between Cambridge and London...

There are a number of art colleges in the area, however, so you never know, you may strike lucky with that darkroom.

Yes, I am fighting it as much as possible as my parents are old and absolutely will not fly ( they did not even go to my wedding in the UK when I lived there before) but my husband has a great opportunity if we move there. And it might not be Hertforshire, it could be London or wherever his family finds us accomodations at first, so ...I dunno. But our business here is not doing so well ( long story but it has to do with chains of distribution and the same problems do not exist in the UK so we could easily set up shop there and his business partner is there so it could work out much better in the long run, plus I hear the ecomomy is booming there. If nothing else we could work for his brother and  sister-in-law at "so organic") Anyways so we will see, I will keep you all posted and when I get my broadband back next week. I will be surfing all over to see what I can find as far as darkrooms and the like go. May have to go semi digital...could be worse I suppose.

Laura

Last time i moved house i negotiated a darkroom for myself in the deal (with Barbara my wife). She got the choice on furniture and fittings and i got an old Belfast sink and a small darkroom to put it in.  Keep your options open on fitting a darkroom, it can be done so cheaply now. Best wishes on the move.
