I joined it years ago, got bored with it almost instantaneously and haven't been back in a very long time. Maybe they should invent "anti-social" networks for the likes of me.....?? ;) :o

Makes me laugh :)
Around here, everytime I  mention to someone I'm not on Facebook, people look at me strange :)

I guess we don't follow herds too easily...

My Facebook account has a picture of tumbleweed blowing through it, I don't twat on twitter and Linked In is for people who are bored of life. Have just spent 4 days in the Lake District with 5 great friends and photographers... that's my idea of social networking.

I was on it for about 3 weeks, liked some parts but not others.  I really need to be there, I guess, since most of my students use it, but haven't built up enough interest to do so.  I also don't tweet, twitter, or woof...  But I might start up again, just for quick student contact.

Or maybe not...

Probably not. Like everything else in life, Alan, everything in moderation. Some people, however, seem incapable of living their lives without letting all their "friends" know the banalities of their every waking moment. Thank goodness for Filmwasters and normality.....

Everything in moderation - coudn't agree more!

My favourite review of facebook was from one of my closet friends, I asked him why he had deleted his account and he replied "I was tired of my friends writing things which made me dislike them"...

anyway I'm still on there so I'll look you up next time i login.

I like facebook. I don't take it super seriously, like I'm not afaid of people seeing me and my posts and all that and I'm not a control freak about my FB "friends". And I don't freak out because someone posts something I don't care about...that's what the scroll bar is for. There are tons of great photographers and artists on facebook, and it's a nice place to connect with them. You get out of it what you put into it, like anything else. It's just another forum with a broader range of interests (if you want it to be).

I agree with Sean's opinion!

I auto post images there via ifttt.com share music there and anything else that takes my fancy. I don't share my daily routine for fear that people may die of boredom and in any case the realisation that my life is as boring as it  reads might just push me over the edge.

I guess it's a good job we are all different.

I've resisted all these years, never gave too much attention but that was the only way to keep in touch with friends I've made in London (if only they were all filmwasters!!).

If correctly used, it might be a good way of self-promotion. So far I'm enjoying... let's see ;)

after several failed attempts, I finally dumped the FB account last month. Feels like taking a shower after a roll in the mud.

With people all over the world (my wife is a scientist so we know many people that move every few years all over the world) it's actually quite nice to know what's going on in their lives.

My favourite review of facebook was from one of my closet friends, I asked him why he had deleted his account and he replied "I was tired of my friends writing things which made me dislike them"...

Matt (Chalky), your friend and I have this one thing very much in common. I'd extend it further to say that I didn't like the kind of person that I became when I used Facebook. It's weird. Anyway, I suspended, then reinstated, then deleted my acount about 2 years ago.

This caused a few raised eyebrows and finally a number of missed opportunities on the 'playing in a band' side of things and so I eventually decided to rejoin about 6 months ago, but to focus my FB use very speicifcally on a single part of my life: music. Not photography chatter or friends and no family stuff either. I'm there simply to help with my musical ventures and that's it. So far it's worked out really well. I get to find out where my friends are playing in their bands and I've managed to get back out there myself with occasional gig.

Regarding social media in general, I saw the light about 18 months ago and decided that if I wanted to use FB and Twitter etc., I needed to segregate the different parts of my life (music, photography, family & work) and not just have one account for everything.

I did a similar thing with FB, just recently....
I had an account  for a year or so and it just got to be too much to keep a handle on because my family, my astronomy pals, and my photo friends were all 'friends' on it.
It just got too messy and too much work to keep up with and maintain so I dropped out of it.

I stayed away for over a year and was fairly content with that decision but in September I got back on FB and have only added photo friends as contacts and it's a LOT better this time around.   :)

I had really missed hearing about what some of my photographer friends were doing and since this photographer does not live by film photography alone, it has been nice to re-connect.

 :)

Ah ha! So I'm not alone in this. It's interesting to hear your story, Becky and I'm glad that we're both finally getting some decent return on our association with FB.

In theory, it's about the focus you give to these social medias.

I went to work in a photography festival exactly a month a go with other 14 volunteers, every single one of them had a FB account. Their jaws dropped when I told I didn't have one... not that this rection it's new to me but since I was there, working for free with the main purpose of making contact with other photographers in order to get a job, well... I had no choice.

Earlier in the year I set up a twitter account and I'm quite surprised how well it's been going, as long as you follow what you want you rarely get people talking nonsense. It's an easy way to get quick access to your favorite subject...
