Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, GA

Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago I headed out to Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta for a photo-wander. This cemetery was founded in 1850 as "Atlanta Cemetery" and pre-dates even some of the oldest parts of Atlanta today because most of this place burned down in 1864.

The rectangles were shot on a Minolta AF-C, Fujicolor 100, and the squares are an Argus Argoflex E with Lomo Color Negative 100 film.

The gates and perimeter walls weren't built until 1896:

There's a whole lot of graves with Masonic iconography on them:

Note the shrouded monuments, I've never noticed those in other grave yards:

These headstones mark the graves of Confederate soldiers from the American Civil War:

There's also a very old Jewish section:

Modern Atlanta is never very far away:

Some of the mausoleums can be pretty elaborate:

Some even have stained glass windows inside!

I loved these immense, rough, hand-hewn crosses:

People leave golf balls at Bobby Jones's graveside:

I saw only a fraction of the place so I'll be going back at some point. Check it out if you happen to be in Atlanta!
