What ASA to shoot Ektachrome
« on: October 02, 2012, 07:44:04 AM »
I have a pro-pack of 35mm Ektachrome E100VS film from 2003 that has been refridgerated since I got it. I want to shoot it in my FM2n.  I have heard that it is best to slightly underexpose slide film for more saturated colors.  Should I shoot it at ASA 125, 160 or just shoot it at ASA 100.
I got the film free at a Photo Club meeting.  A pro photographer was retiring, so I have no money tied up in this film.
I guess I could shoot 1/3 of the roll at each of these ASA's.
I'll probably send it to Dwayne's when I finish it, unless somebody can recommend a better place.
I did a search on what ASA to shoot Ektachrome and it came back " did you mean ASS, believe it or not.

This review (http://www.epinions.com/content_182752415364?sb=1) suggests:

Quote
Although designed to be shot at its rated value of ISO 100, Ektachrome 100 VS can be safely pushed 1 stop to ISO 200. While I try NOT to do so with this film, I have had to more than once and was quite pleased to discover that there was little degradation in sharpness, color saturation and accuracy and little or no noticeable increase in grain size

So, if true, then there doesn't seem to be an advantage to underexpose, other than offering an extra stop in speed.

I guess the only way to find out is to try and see :)

Just shoot it as rated and it will be fine.

Dwayne's is the best!    I send all of my slides there!
