How much is that camera worth?
What an interesting question, especially when you're on that evil shopping site, tired, ready to press that button.

Well, today I stumbled totally accidentally on a very wonderful website called Collectiblend

Want to know what that Ansco Viking Readyset is worth?
Just type in the name and it will search through multiple sites to find an approximate value. It indicates how precise that value is and sometimes even will give you an history of the values.

Looks really interesting and thanks for posting this. The site probably works on a number of levels:

1. What's the difference in value due to condition
2. What's the difference in value due to variations in the model (e.g. Hassy 500c/m compared to 500c
3. Variations within brand (Rolleicord v Rolleiflex, Nikon v Nikkormat, etc.)
4. Variations across specification (Nikon F3 v Canon F1-N v Pentax LX)
5. What might be the next "collectable"

It probably has limitations across national / continental boundaries as what might attract a high price in Japan might be relatively cheaper in the UK - which might just be a function of scarcity in a given territory driving the price up.

Overall, I'll use it as a benchmark - though it's extremely unlikely I'd buy anything of a significant price via "the big auction site" as I prefer to get  "hand on" if I'm parting with money.

The only thing I found that might "screw up" the concept slightly is when sellers try to make their money on the shipping, something that doesn't seem to be taken into account in the calculations.

Of course, I searched for Polaroid 185 using that site and came across this auction: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320845572157&clk_rvr_id=384149638408&item=320845572157&lgeo=1&vectorid=229508 You have to read all of the blurb from the seller to fully appreciate what's going on here...but still, $10,000 for a 185 (no matter how mint) is just plain crazy!!

Well, that is one hell of a price - mint is nice, but, even if I had the money it would leave a rather nasty after taste!

At that price, I'd get myself a new used car and maybe a Leica or something... and still have some spare change to feed them both
