I saw this before and I think thats awesome they opened a tintype studio. I collect vintage tintypes and really want to try it out. I am hoping to go to Brokklyn in a few weeks for Photoville. They are setting up a tintype studio, portraits willl be 30 bucks! http://capworkshops.org/photoville-2012/

And i'm glad I can convert one my 4x5 Toyo darkslides to take tintypes  :)

Black anodised aluminium seems fine.  That's cheap enough.

as if i were not already convinced i needed to do this! NOw I am wondering how expensive are the chemicals and where can I get them in the U.S.??
Sapata....please show a picture of your conversion on the 4x5 film holders when you get them done..
I was thinking about this yesterday and wondered if I could do it with pinhole...now I know I can...

Britt...i  :)was just thinking the same thing..about a 12 hour drive for me but it would so be worth it!! We will have to make a plan :)

you can buy pre-mixed kits in the USA at Bostick and Sullivan in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
