Here in the UK, some people are marking the fact that the monarch will have been monarch for 60 years. On a positive note, we're all getting an extra day added to our traditional end of May bank holiday so we've got a 4 day weekend to enjoy.

Personally, I will be re-acquainting myself with my 'Blad kit and, hopefully, getting as far away as possible from the TV as I can manage, until the "celebrations" are all over. I'll be focusing (pun very much intended) on coming up with something for the Postcard Swap.

What about you guys (whether UK-based or otherwise)??

I'm ramping up for the transit of Venus on the 5th June, so I'm getting telescopes ready for that.
It's a big deal in my world of stars, so the telescopes are getting their final check ups before being packed in the truck to go mobile.

Cameras are all loaded and ready to go.

Also, I finally figured out where a tiny internal glare problem was in my old Diana that I've been using a lot lately.
A quick fix with black tape remedied the issue so I'm happy to have that sorted.
 :)

And like Paul, I'm going to decide on what print to make into a card for the postcard swap-which is never easy for me to do.
 :)

We're having our monthly photo club meeting this sunday and we'll hopefully get some old chemicals out and move around some furniture (continued work to fit in a photo studio of sorts).

girl friend out of the house so probably some scanning will be done too. ;)

Might put in an order for that tetenal c-41 and misc stuff thingies I need.

hm... oh, and if I have the time I'll put up a sales thread! -so look out for that. I'm trying to raise some funds for a bronica C I've got my eyes set on~ ;D

It's been quite a while since I've posted anything here, so I thought I'd do that!  And a friend of mine loaned me her Lomo 360 Spinner to play with, so I will load that in the truck with my regular gear to see what I can do with it.

My wife and I just got a new house, and for the past month or so it's looked like The Wreck of the Hesperous here, but I'm slowly finding my stuff again.  The truly sad thing is I left my wonderful wet darkroom at the other place! :o :-\  So, until I can figure out where to build a new one here, I'm going to have to scan my pix in and print that way.  But I'll get along fine, I'm sure.  Boy, do I miss my darkroom!

I also just saw an article about Afghan Box Cameras, and saw this video - How to use an Afghan box camera "kamra-e-faoree" on Vimeo - which  has caused me to want to build one, so I am going to begin gathering the materials for that this weekend.  I'll let you know if anything comes of it.

This whole selling of houses and buying other ones has gotten me quite off my normal photo game.  I'm hoping to get back at it full tilt and become more involved with FW.com again.

IR

BTW, anybody know what's going on at Toycamera.com?  I posted something there 5 or 6 days ago, and no response!  Most of the posts there are at least 3 months old, with no activity.  Have they gone out of business, but forgot to turn out their porch light?  Just curious...

I'm off up to Suffolk at the weekend with my 5x4 and a bag of film. Then I shall be off into London on Tuesday as my son has only gotten himself invited to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee lunch at Westminster Hall, so we (his parents who didn't get invited!) will be standing outside hoping to get a few snaps.

My wife is off on a hen week end on Saturday morning so I have four days to indulge my hobbies.  A mixture of cycling, excessive alcohol consumption, curry and photography is on the menu.  May well take my Harman Titan for a second outing and have 18 rolls of Efke IR820 in my freezer which need exposing.

Bliss!

My wife is competing in a hunter/jumper show in Del Mar, so I am heading down with her on Saturday with my Minolta Maxxum 7 and Sony Alpha 100 with some T-Max, Tri-X, and Delta 100 along with my Sony 50mm f/1.4, Minolta 35-70mm and 75-300mm Big Beercan.

I might take the Bronica ETRSi for some portraits, and if my Orca film gets here, I'll throw my Pentax Auto 110 around my neck too.

I want to get the Big Pentax and use the extension ring, shoot some portraits and use ultra secret developing skills to mess with the negatives; but the little ladies are coming from Europe this weekend so lets see at the end what I do from it  ::)

My aim is to toast our queen with alcohol throughout the 4 day weekend. I have a stack of scanning to do if the weather doesn't play ball and if it's sunny and hot, well, I have just  sorted out irrigation for the whole of the garden, so, I may just sit and watch that glug!

I do hope to wander with a camera or two at some stage as well.

Have a great one, chaps  ;D

I'll be going home to Glasgow tomorrow, and thence to a friend's 30th birthday party in bonnie Doune.

I'm looking forward to getting some time to shoot- but the party will likely be fairly wild, & I'm trying to decide what camera I should take- do I take my precious or a cheap POS so that I don't have to worry about imbibing too much  and dropping something expensive?
(so far I'm leaning towards sporting a Zorki 4 and maybe a Clack)

Regardless there'll be plenty of stuff to point cameras at. Doune Castle is very famous:
French Taunting - Monty Python and the Holy Grail
(also in Game of Thrones and lots of other film / tv stuff with swords in)

CJ's cycle racing Saturday under 8's and second in the series so hoping for a top 3... May take a camera but as I am part trainer/driver/sponsor/purchaser/masseur/donkey/mechanic/waterboy/fan/nutritionist and possible steward I may not get a 'click'...

Possibly Monday jump on the Superduke and hit a 'trendy ghetto' for some shots where I will be just as likely to see a street-fight or street-mugging than a Queen's Jubilee street-party.

I have 3 or 4 rolls of film from my Holga & M645 to process & scan this weekend. I'm also determined to once-and-for-all figure out how to use Vuescan on the V700 properly. At the moment it's a nightmare to use 80% of the time, but the 20% that produces great results keeps me hanging in there in the hope that I can nail down what the optimum (for me) workflow is.

Not really looking forward to it, as I find I can get angry fast with scanning. Embarrassingly, screaming-at-my-laptop angry. Vuescan is a mystery that must be unravelled.

Oh, I use Vuescan a lot - and yes, it can be a complete mare. Actually I try to just use it for the scanning bit these days and do as much as possible in Aperture afterwards. Very happy to at least try to answer any questions about it though.

Myself, I said that I would take some pictures at a friend's band's gig on Saturday, which isn't something I've done before. I think I'm going to use HP5+ pushed to 1600 in a Praktica MTL3 with an f2/55mm Super Takumar lens - although, you know, for something more unusual, a long exposure on 6x9 would be a lot more interesting. Hmm.

I suppose I should take some pictures as London celebrates having had the same queen for a long time, but not of the flotilla and stuff, there will be millions of pictures of that. Maybe of people being sick in the heat with flags in the background.

My wife's recovering from surgery and my daughter from the flu. If I can get them both to nap at the same time, I swear I'm going to dev the first roll of Acros from my Great Wall. I'm half-tempted to dev the two rolls of 35mm I've had waiting for a month, just for the shot-to-free-time ratio. Plus, I need stock for my postcard possibilities!

There are a couple of buildings going up in my neighborhood, and I was trying to do time-lapse photos of the construction with my Mamiya C330.

Problem is, I've been a little lazy and the last ones I took was a couple of months ago, so I'd better take a few shots before they finish building....

@Ordinal @jojonas I discovered over the weekend that a recent update to Vuescan actually addressed my main issue! The auto-cropping feature (where it identifies and crops out each image on the 4 strips of negatives) now works for me. In the past it semi-worked, but if I manually tweaked its best guess, then things would go crazy and start auto cropping in random areas which made the promise of batch scanning a nightmare. Works like a charm now.

I also discovered that setting the colour balance to TMAX400 (forget the exact feature name - I'm not at my laptop at the moment) made a big difference. It's gives me a much more accurate tonal representation than using the 'GENERIC' profile in the past.

I also played with adjusting the high of the film holder to find my scanner's optimum focal point.

So I've not exactly mastered scanning, but I'm much more comfortable with it now.

I'm going to get my postcards ready this weekend.  My husband helped pick out the "one" I'll use last night so I'm happy to be moving closer to sending them out.

My other weekend project is to find the owner of an old lot of vintage cars that sits on the side of Route 66 so I can "trespass" and get some closeup photos of his collection.

Don't envy you that journey Leon, just the destination.

Off to London on Saturday (only a 2 hour train ride) for the Film Photography Podcast meet up.  Should be fun if last year is anything to go by.  Also hoping to catch a bit of cycle racing at the London Nocturne before I head back to the country. Nick.

On Saturday, I shall be rewashing some negatives processed in Rollei Digibase C41 kit that came out covered in white sediment (I shall stick to Tetenal kits from now on) - other than that probably wading through the backlog of scanned images & doing abit of Photoshopping. Then on Sunday I shall be riding in an Audax with my Vivitar UWS in my back pocket.  100 miles in the pouring rain (if the BBC weather forecast is to be believed).  Can't wait!

On Saturday (09/06) I'll be taking a few rolls of 120 film to be processed. On 16/06, they should be ready and, hopefully, one of them will be the postcard entry. However, by way of an "insurance policy", I'll shoot something on 35mm this weekend that should, almost certainly, produce something worthwhile. Not 100% sure yet - but I have a couple of ideas.

I envy Leon both the journey and the destination. Getting to travel the entire length of Scotland is a joy. I haven't been to Orkney (yet) but what I've seen in photos looks beautiful.

I'm actually trying to convince Lara that we should head for Lewis and Harris when the Olympics are on (we have those weeks booked off as we have zero intention of commuting through Stratford twice a day, every day when that lot is in full swing). There's always Clacton, though......

Framing out a Traditional Darkroom in my basement so my Beseler 4x5 MCRX can sing the tones on tale as it were. planning out the lighting and ventilation, a cool looking but expensive Hood Vent or just some cheap inline wall vents? lots of decisions and time to make something special to grow old in. By the way, the Door had to be Taken apart and built in place standing vertical, it was a construction Hat Trick but well worth it. It required drilling out the rivets and re riveting it in place. Fun stuff!

Time is a false perception of the quickening eternity that we can only briefly glimpse through a temporary capture one frame at a time, where each frame in our momentum is an enigmatic mirror of ourselves and all who choose to look and truely see.

Nice (expensive) door you have there. For the ventilation, I'm a big fan of well installed bathroom vents. If you want a hood over the trays, why not simply mount a regular bathroom exhaust in a wood and plexiglass hood (DIY). You could build it so it comes down lower than your nose so all those smells are out before you even know it?

Film is the vinyl record of photography.
