thanks Phil - I've narrowed it down to user error - more film dev'd today with no real issue. I reckon it's dichroic fog ... that'll learn me for not using a proper stop bath.  Mind you, I've not used one for years and had no problems so far.

Had a few random 35mm shots left from the meet up that didn't quite work on their own ??? so.....
