Mamiya c3 + ASDA scans
« on: February 26, 2012, 02:34:36 PM »
Some time ago I bought Mamiya c3 with 65mm 3.5 lens. Yesterday we went to the sea and I decided to use this monster first time. I need to say that is pleasure to use this camera and I am really pleased with results from 65mm lens. Both shoots wide open. This lens is very sharp wide open.

It was my first attempt to  colour 120 format and cannot wait to see my squares. I develop  and scan in ASDA 2.99 for developing and scanning.

As You may see pictures are not square !!! they crop them to rectangle during scanning.  I can image that they made this on auto mode but they also print index . My question is where lab employers have brains to see that something is not right here. I need to mention that negative is full of finger prints :( .

It was my first and last time to use asda :(

Hi Damian,

You've taken some lovely shots there. The C3 / C330 (and C220) range are great cameras and Mamiya-Sekor lenses are among the very best - but they are as cheap as they have ever been.

However, giving film to the likes of ASDA to process is okay if the end result isn't too important to you. I suppose it's a bit like buying the best quality hi-fi equipment with gold plated terminals and speaker plugs only to plug them into the crappiest £10 speakers available from a second hand store.

Not all processing labs are equal. Yet it doesn't cost massively more to have the processing work done by a good independent shop or even one of the bigger companies that advertise in camera magazines. Also, my guess is that the scans will be tiny and will have been done at "auto" settings. It's probably not even ASDA but some local franchisee.

I don't know where you live but, as you've used ASDA it will be in the UK. If you can find a Jessops (not my favourite store by any stretch of the imagination) I've heard good things about their processing. Otherwise, I'm sure there'll be a thread on here for a good (and good value) lab. It'd be a real shame for any more to be ruined by clumsy / careless work.

Dear Late developer - thank You for answer

I am agree with You 100 percent. I develop in ASDA because it was just camera test and asda was very close to beach where i shoot pictures. I live in Aberdeen Scotland and I already know Jessops here . I decided to buy c41 kit when i will be shooting more color negatives.
