Very beautiful images... I've never done collodion before but I'm interesting to know the difference about using or not ether...

hmmm  interesting Francois.  I would love to see identical images taken with same camera/lens but one using classic collodion and the other using the 'po boy' recipe!

Diane Peterson :

What i figured out Poe Boy formula without ether more stronger keeps to glass and isn't fragile like ether formula its also need to settle longer 2 weeks.  i think that pictures are slightly brighter with this formula.

Francois , axia, hookstrapped , Paul Mitchell , sapata : thank You

original_ann : below picture taken with the same combo and ether formula

Love the last one.  Some of the "scum" on the edges of the plates can be wipe off if you use wet cotton wool balls and gently wipe the surface.

Poor Boy is a specific collodion formula as detailed below.

this is coffers mix for people on a budget or those that can not get ether.

an awesome mix - fast, tough, and it makes great images.

240 ml plain collodion
300 ml denatured alcohol
6ml   distilled water
3g pot.  bromide
5g  pot iodide.

add the alcohol to the ether.
add pot bromide to the distilled water till dissolved.  then add the pot iodide to that mix till dissolved.  add this mix to the above mix or alcohol and collodion.  season with tincture of iodine.  let it set for a few days.  flow away!.

Importantly it does not use cadmiun as a salt and as a consequence is considered more environmentally friendly and safer too boot.

I must admit this is quite interesting...
Image wise, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the Poe Boy formula and the regular one...

Cleaning the problem off is pretty easy and will certainly remove the issues bottom on the sides of the plate.  Make sure that you wipe the back of the plate clean - removing any excess silver after the plate has been in the silver bath - also make sure that you clean and dry the plate holder after each plate is made and this should reduce these problems from occuring.
