Carnvial or better to say Karneval is something very important in the region of Germany where I live. It is sometimes called the fifth season. Karneval is the time before ash wednesday and reaches it's peak at the Rosenmontag (rose monday). At the Rosenmontag there is a big parade in every town of North-Rhine Westphalia. And this is what the pictures, I want to show you, are about.
Because the Rosenmontagszug (rose monday parade) is a very boozy event, you better get there by train.
As I said, everyone drinks during this parade, it's more like a big celebration of alcohol.
Some people are quite good at hiding their consume, some aren't...
...and if you aren't allowed to drink, you can feel quite lost.
And while some people have to have fun...
...others ignore the whole thing completly.
An important part of the Rosenmontagszug is giving away little presents to the crowd...
...but most of the presents aren't really wanted by the crowd.
Because it's a german tradition, everything has to be caught on tape.
The Germans really need carnival, how else could it be possible that the square germans use their own houses roof as a dancefloor?
But after all, carnival is also about family...
...and pretzels.
And when everything is over some need a break...
...and Germany turns into Germany again while the whole mess is cleaned up.
I hope you liked my first post on the filmwasters forum as much as I enjoyed taking these pictures.
Bastian.
