it looks like... a frame from an anime movie...
... and indeed, we had to drive through a raw rock-lined tunnel, through mist shrouded mountains to get there. It is very much like a Miyazaki anime. A delightful journey back in time. We've been to the abandoned village a few times now, and having more time is good to think about each photograph. As opposed to wildly shooting all over the place with happy abandon.
This school is of Meiji-, or perhaps Taisho-era, so it has a very Japanese and unique feel to everything from the door frame sizes (small!), to the brass fittings on the windows. The details are fascinating to walk and to gaze at the lives that once were here.
Down the hill, the rest of the mining town also exists, and more scanning beckons! I think I have definitely found a preferred camera and lens combo for this type of work too. The 50mm Super Komura certainly has an ethereal feel to it -
Mijonju commented it is like
'waking up, and not knowing where you are'. A perfect description.
Phil's 6x6 stuff in color was an influence, and we should try and make a meet somewhere, one day, one place...
I will try and pull together a set from last weekend over the coming days as well. See ya! Skj.
