So long stand development...
« on: April 01, 2011, 08:52:57 AM »
Howdy all,

Just processed a roll of the usual Tri-X in HC110, but this time according to Kodak's instructions.

Wow!  There's such a difference in grain [same camera, similar outdoor situations] between doing it Kodak's [proper] way and my Columbo-induced half-hearted way.

Shan't be standing it again now.
The only down side being I only used to use 6ml of developer before and now I'm up to the heady heights of 15ml.  My green credentials have gone out the window for now.

Will post some examples when I can make it to the scanner.

Take care one and all,

Chops

yes - stand development doesn't suit all developers and situations.

I know William Mortensen had already tried stand development using a home brewed developer left standing for one full week in the refrigerator... The wait must have been excruciating!

Out of interest what are the differences you are seeing?

On the positive side the grain looks much less noticeable.  Really quite a big difference.
On the downside, I can no longer watch a whole episode of Columbo whilst leaving the film to stand.

"Oh, one more thing, ma'am..."

Seriously, though, I would only stand develop lower-speed films.  I love using Acros for it:
