Polaroid Kalig Lens Kit wide angle and telephoto
« on: March 21, 2011, 11:44:36 PM »
There is this bizarre (I never heard about it) kalig lens kit for polaroid 100 and others that gives wide angle and telephoto capabilities. May be somebody is interested. I had to make a serious effort myself not to buy it, but my motto is: no more cameras!!!! no more things!!!  :P

I think the external viewfinder is way too cool  ::)

I have a set like this for my Petri 1.9. It's marked Petri but it's definitely Kaligar. Sean has some of these on his website. I've never used them on my Petri but I might just have to.

Well, at the Potters Bar camera fair I spotted one. I offered the seller £5.00 and walked off thinking I know I've seen this somewhere... Fits like a glove on the 340... Thanks Calbisu...

£5!? Sweet. You must be well chuffed. I may need to try and dig up one of these at Photographica next month.

There's one on evilBay at the moment from a US seller: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VINTAGE-KALIGAR-LENS-SET-POLAROID-MODEL-100-/170627084713?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item27ba2ab1a9

4 hours to go. Decent price.

I have more than one of these sets. They are interesting but mostly just add a lot of vignette to the photos. I like the wide angle more than the telephoto. Also, they have threads but the threads don't seem to fit on anything. They defnly don't fit on the 180 or 195.

Did you try them on any of the cheaper Land Cams? I have a 360 and if the kit works on Miller's 340 then I should be fine...I guess?

I have a few kits. One Kaligar for the Big Swinger 3000 and a couple Lentar variations for the 100 cameras. I have another Kaligar for 100 cameras somewhere in a box.

What I meant by threads is that under the "clamps" there are threads, but they don't fit anything I own.

I would definitely try and hack those so they fit on another camera!
Maybe taking a filter step-up or step-down adapter and cementing it into place with a dab of epoxy... or something like that.

One issue is that the lens is very "deep" after the threads. The cameras I've tried it on, the thing rests on the camera glass. Very curious what the base element was designed for.
