Polaroid is dead...
« on: March 15, 2011, 02:55:18 AM »
Long live Polaroid!

I recently got 13 packs of 669 from 1996 for $99 on eBay (and they work!), and decided I needed to compact my stash so I could fit it all in the fridge. Before, I had about half in the fridge and half in the closet. Made a few nice discoveries, like I have around 12 packs of Type 87 (and 7 packs of 85). I also have tons of Type 107 for some reason, like 25 packs at least. And a lot more 669 than I thought. And only a couple packs of 664 left, so need to get some more of that. Total, I have about 330 packs of film to use! Plus what I sent ahead to Japan for my visit next week. I think I'm safe for another four years at least! And it all fits in the fridge now, with a little bit of room left for food.

I saved a couple empty boxes of each film, will probably do some kind of blog post on box design...

Amazing!

Looking forward to seeing the results of those! There won't be a vintage car in the whole south west USA that goes unphotographed  :)

One question, why do you seal the foil packs in the ziplock bags? I have removed all mine from the cardboard boxes, but have them in the fridge just in the foil packs. Is that risky?

great stuff.

Chaulky, Im sure Sean knows much better than I do about what can happen to film when its outside the foil and not in a ziplock baggie, but I can tell you that on the box for the T55 it says to put the opened foil box in a ziplock baggie that has been provided, which I personally never found inside the box and bought on my own. I am assuming it helps to prevent the goop from drying out.

there is always water dripping from somewhere inside my fridge, and i've bought packs before that were rusty inside regardless of foil, so just a double precaution with the ziplocks, and it helps keep them organized!

the 13 packs were a "buy it now" and i actually waited over week before finally buying them! i guess nobody wanted to take teh chance, but they work fine. only 8 shots per pack, first of the 669.

If you want to be extra sure, add some silica gel to each pack ;)

I'm jealous.

Someone might have already mentioned this to you, but I've been told that you shouldn't store the packs standing on their sides like that because the chemicals will pool in the pods giving you streaky results.

Oh and yeah, I've always stored flat.  Can be a pain and take up more realestate, but I've always been worried about chemical pooling.

streaking is a bad thing?  ???

this is a good four years worth of collecting...minus the 4,000 or so shots i've already taken. the id-uv was super cheap, came out to about $3.50 a pack. someone was selling multiple cases back before it became so rare, i think i ended up with 2 1/2. should have bought another!

No, the pods will pool if it's stored on its side.
