OK, it seems cheaper than some of the other film prices. It's £12 per box - didn't see how many snaps you get from it, but I'm assuming 8 or 10. Isn't the b/w film more like £20? That's good I suppose, but shouldn't they be paying you to test their film, not charging you? It's great news that colour is on it's way and looking so rich too (sort of), but a lot of the test shots on their gallery has the overall effect as being quite foggy and with a grey overlay. Not sure I'd want to pay for that, but I'd gladly test it for free.

Anyway, all in all this is good news, though. For one thing it means that Damion can come round my house in the summer and take some more shots like these from 2008....hopefully with the same wonderful colours.

EDIT: Turns out that I took the 2nd and 3rd shots and Damion took the first one.

Glad to see this too. With the nice season coming soon, it's going to be nice... but I still have a ton of Instax to go through and 1½ packs of 600 left.

Ed, that price wont last. Its for pioneer members only and only while these beta packs last. After that, Im sure the price will go right back up to the 23.50 a box, US. Yeah, just confirmed this in my newsletter. And Im sure that its 8 pix per pack. I didnt notice any word about there being 10 pix per pack.

I love the bright colors of this film and the price certainly is right for now, but I just bought 4 packs of the b&w and am paying 14 bucks for shipping so Im going to have to pass on this color stuff.

You all know how I feel about this film, but I have to say, I am getting pretty tired of the Spin Doctor tactics they use to try to get people over the issues with their film. They say in their newsletter "Some images taken with this film may show random white dots (see sample images) caused by the hand-mixed nature of the film emulsion, making analog even more analog." Oh please! Analog more analog? Lame! Its beta film. I get beta. Being in the software manufacturing business for pretty much my entire life, I understand what beta is and what to expect from it. They should just leave it at that, but when they try to cram these beta defects down my throat by trying to tell me that it makes the film somehow more analog than it would be without them, well, GAH!!! Ok, Im going to shut up now.  :P

And Ed and Leon, love those shots!!! Is that the Fuji Instax? I really like it, a lot. I keep debating on getting one of those cams. I dont want the mini because the images are too small and I have a mini back for my Diana anyway, but I really like the look of the images you posted here. They have those soft edges I really love.

I ordered a few packs of the new beta color film when I got the e-mail.  We shall see.  I usually get shipments with-in a few days so I'll post when I get something.  The last PUSH films weren't great with oranges reds and light blues, and required body heat to get a good color satration (or should I say better).

I posted some images on my blog of all of the latest Impossible films for my recent project documenting my dogs recovery.  If you scroll through the 30 days of images (27 right now I need to post the last few images) you can find good examples of what was possible with each of the films: PX70 PUSH, PX600 V06, PX600 UV+ and PX-100.  Periodically I wrote up my thoughts and the process I used to create the results.

I am with you Mojave with the IP spin of the flaws...I just ignore them.  And the whole getting to PAY less for beta film after obtaining the AWESOME LAND status on my pioneer account...stuff it.  Why can't all the films cost 16US?

But hey that's the trend in marketing, look how well it works for lomo.  And if it brings in the casual consumer then I'm for it though if it is working and keeping sales up when are we going to see prices at least below 20US fora pack of film?

Amazing photos Green! How do you get self portraits with it? Or am I being stupid and somebody is hitting the shutter for you?  ;D

And yeah, I agree that the more people to buy the film, the better chance they have of surviving. I am just really hoping that they will lower the prices. Polaroid wasnt hurting for cash when they killed off most of their product line so it seems to me like the price per pack shouldnt be an issue if they lower it to 16 a pack US.

I dont think I'll ever reach Land Status because I cant find anybody to recommend the film to. Thats probably not good.  ;)

Erin: The point of my posting the photos (which was apparently lost in translation, so apologies for not being clear) was that those are 'Possible' (i.e. Polaroid 600  ;)) prints taken with Damion's 680 a couple of years ago. Thanks very much for the clarification re the pricing structure. It makes sense now. And to think that I was actually cutting those guys some slack for a few minutes here.

BTW, great rant!!

one day i walked into m & s and they had this big exciting promotion on by the front doors and after choosing what we wanted we were told that actually it wasn't available to us because we weren't account holders.
it had completely the opposite result than the intended one and m & s went right down in my estimation.
i don't like marketing that divides the consumers into special and not special.

@Mojave, just a self timer attachment for the SX-70, gives me about 10-12 seconds to get in the shot.

Aoluain, Im sure any 600 cam will do, but that 680 is probably the best.

Ed, no apologies necessary. Im sure I missed the point. I do that a lot these days, along with throwing away camera batteries and forgetting to turn the lamp off in my car.  ::)

And Green, what is this self timer attachment you speak of? I am definitely interested in getting one but have no idea how to even begin looking for one.

Erin - the only thing I've ever produced with the letters 'roids' in resulted in a trip to the doctor and several weeks of topical application of Anusol.

I have to admit, after seeing the new film in person, the color is beautiful! And the new black frame bw looks nice as well, though I don't care for the black frame. But the image is much nicer than previous releases.

I shot my first pack of the new black border PX600 UV+

I will scan an post some results soon on my blog and here soon but here are my first thoughts:

1.  The B&W is definitely more B and W, especially the whites.

2. Like all of the impossible films I have noticed this film does much better indoors under low light with long exposures.  The longer the exposure the less sensitive the film seems to be with regards to developing temperatures.

3.  Temperature during development when you are shooting outside in bright sun light really matters.  I shot on a cool day, low 50's (deg F), and developed between 59-63 deg F (which is perfect for indoor shots) and every image was over exposed and washed out (and yes I block the film from light).  And I had the light dark wheel set to all dark, so as usual you loose your ability to make adjustments because you are forced to shoot at one extreme end of exposure.  I did one test developing between 74 and 77 deg F and that seemed to work better.  I still need to test this more.

4.  The film still develops a color shift toward orange when heat is applied.  I shot an image in my car which was quite warm with the heat on (85 deg F or so) and got a quite nice almost color looking image.  I will say that there wasn't the usual loss of contrast you would see in the past film developed at high temps, but this was only one shot so I don't know how repeatable it is.

5. This film is much more crisp with deeper blacks and whiter whites and really has potential.  That said it would be awesome if the dam films weren't so sensitive to temperature.  I don't mind that they are sensitive, it is kinda cool to be able to add heat and cold to alter the image.  But a few degrees difference really can change the look and that makes it impossible to have any repeatability without shooting under temperature controlled conditions.  I really don't care that you have to block the images from light as I put them in a hot/cold clip to develop anyway.

It should be noted I am shooting with an SX-70 Sonar with a ND filter. I have thought about stacking a second ND filter to see if that would help.  I don't know if using a true 600 camera would be better.  I'd love to hear from anyone using a 600 camera, especially what settings on the light/dark wheel you have to use.  personally I think they need to adjust the film speed so you can use a neutral setting on the wheel to get decent exposure, that would give you room to play on the exposure.

So the summarize, the new UV+ is better, it's improved, but until I can use it with consistent results under a wider temperature range I won't call it perfect. Right now this film is perfect for indoor shoots, especially at night, on a tripod, in temps around high 50's to low 70's (deg F).  Oh and if you are shooting indoors under lower light (no sun light) you don't really need to block the film from light as much.

Green, I have noticed that even with the older films, they function better in the 600 camera than in the SX70, even the PX100. I use an ND filter on my SX70 as well and what I've seen lately is that all the films are blown out with the SX70, even the PX100. I love the SX70 because I have control over the focus but I think the super cheap box One Step 600 cam does much better with the film, even the PX100. And this is shooting outdoors only, in extreme weather conditions.

So, in answer to your question, the older films work better, on average, in the 600 camera. I am going to be shooting the new film soon and Im not quite sure yet if Im going to try it in my SX70 or not. But if I do, I'll let you know how it turned out. Too bad they wouldnt be willing to give me a pack to do a side by side comparison.
