You'll have to forgive us blowing off steam re TIP on the forum. I know a lot of TIP customers use the film for the right reasons and they weigh up the price vs. results factor very carefully before committing, but there's also a lot of irritating noise coming from the TIP Ecosystem (as we computer geeks are learning to say these days) and photo forums like this are a safe way to put the world right and feel smugly superior at the same time.

If you want to film a piece putting your perspective on TIP for the forthcoming FW video podcast then I'd be ecstatic. Contact me offline if you're interested.

Wow Ed, I dont know what to say, except maybe that if you are brave enough to ask me, I will be brave enough to give it a shot. 

And there is nothing to forgive, really. Its both sides that interest me so much. There are as many opinions as there are people and I really enjoy reading them all. I've been studying photography for a few years now and in each semester, in each class, this same type of conversation is intentionally brought up by the instructor. Usually its about digital vs analog but its the same conversation I think.

Besides, if people weren't out there questioning what TIP was doing, who knows what they'd get themselves up to. I think they do charge too much and why dont they include 10 shots in each pack instead of just 8? And simple things like the film not ejecting properly and batteries dying are things that definitely should be fixed by now. But for myself, everything else I can live with. I know the images can self destruct but I choose to buy the film anyway. Their gimmicks are suspect but I cant fault them for it. They are a business and need to stay afloat how they can. And as much as we purists distrust the Hipsters, they may in fact be responsible for the resurrection of film production and might ultimately save it so I cant fault them either. Most likely, they are creating a new genre that fifty years from now will be well respected and taught in universities around the world. 

Its going to snow here soon. Hopefully I will have some TIP shots of a snowy desert. If they come out.

well said, mojave. it's nice to see a mixed view here on fw. I wholly enjoy shooting with TIP's films but as said, they're a bit expensive.. I did make an comparison with developing and getting prints from a 120 film and where I'm at now it was pretty much on the same level. instant film havings its instant charm and I really liked the experimental workflow with how the film worked. I guess I like making things difficult for me, whatever I shoot with

Same here. There is something to be said about having to work for the shot. I dont really know why that is, just that it is. I think its one of the reason I dont shoot digital so much these days. I just dont have to work for it at all, and I only shoot in manual mode. Thats just how easy digital is. Feels kinda like cheating a bit.

I know what you mean about digital, though. My D700, once set up as i like it, is almost totally fool-proof (well, it has to be with me "behind the wheel". That's probably why I have barely touched the D700 since September last year (much to the joy of my wife, as she now has almost exclusive rights to it) and have reverted almost exclusively to film.

I really enjoy the process of working out the exposure settings and then scanning the negs. However, my only beef with TIP films is that, once I've done my bit composing, focusing and deciding whether I want the shot lighter or darker, I prefer the film to respond accordingly.

I suspect that TIP films are not for the control freaks amongst us. Perhaps I need to develop either a more "free spirited" nature or become somewhat, dare I say it, "masochistic"..!!

I hear you on the TIP film and the light/darkwheel.  But I have found at least with the PX600 UV+ and the PX600 Batch 7/10 and 6/10 they do respond to the wheel predictably.  The catch is you have to forget about the lighter side of the wheel.  If you consider neutral the lightest and all dark the darkest and just play on that half of the wheel it is pretty predictable.

LD, I thought we film shooters were all pretty much masochistic in one way or another. For example, I love that LF cam I have but seriously, it hurts my back to use it. Imagine those funky positions you get yourself in to get the right shot. Imagine being in one of those positions when using a digital camera. You get out of the position pretty quickly because the digital cams are easy to focus, especially if you use auto focus like I do most of the time because my eyes arent what they used to be. Now imagine being in that same strange position for at least 10 minutes, in the hot sun, under a black blanket that absorbs heat, focus loop or magnifying glass in hand just to get the image in focus and then you start to get my meaning.
